The Australian under-16 social media ban initiative is funny to say the least. Especially when you consider that it completely removes parental accountability from the equation. I'm not a parent yet but I would say it's pretty easy for parents to get their kids a dumb phone and get them to do some actual parenting instead of creating these weird, half-assed systems of control that risk causing overreach and privacy losses for under-16s. #tech #auspol

Tech giants will face fines of up to $50 million if they fail to take "reasonable steps" to keep children and teens off their platforms. There are no penalties for parents of young people who subvert the ban.

At best, you're going to teach kids to become excellent subverters of age verification systems which I guess might be excellent for tech recruitment 😂 #auspol #tech

A lot of wishful thinking in this article.

“While the ban only applies to young people, it will likely also require adults to verify their ages with social media providers”

Why the f…k do I need to verify my age to share scuba diving and bush walking pictures with my friends?
#auspol
And before anyone says “think of the children” f.. the children if their parents are too lazy to monitor their kids activities why should I be inconvenienced!

"Enter Anthony Albanese, his historic election victory all but forgotten in a world punch drunk from endless economic and military crises. His task - almost certainly the legacy-defining mission of his prime ministership - is to ease Australia from an increasingly unreliable relationship with the US and steer a new path for our nation."

The reason Texas is part of the USA is that Mexico made slavery illegal.

Remember the Alamo? A lot of white people don't know is that what the "brave" people in the Alamo were fighting for was slavery.

That's also why it took two years after the civil war ended for enforcement of anti-slavery in Texas. (it wasn't because of slow communication, as is told in revisionist histories, it was because white people willfully defied the law).

Freedom is always worth fighting for.

Things are going slow on the Allegro EV conversion at present. Got some AC charging cable issues to solve and we're waiting on parts to start on the battery box.
The ol' finances are a little dry too, so be patient. No one wants it finished more than me, I promise! We'll get there.

Ongoing, and very worrying, trend in Australia.

Increasingly authorities and governments are dropping the requirements and qualifications needed for its enforcement staff to carry lethal weapons.

Shorter training in Victoria, decreasing literacy and numeracy levels in SA, and arming staff outside usual police ranks in the NT.

We have seen the current ‘highly trained’ police misuse their lethal powers. Dropping the standards even further isn’t going to provide better outcomes.

We're all aware that the Qld LNP has no plan to reduce the state's emissions. They think climate change is a belief system; a religion. If you believe in God he'll fix whatever problem there may be.

We don't have time for this BS. You accept the science or you don't. Lead, follow or get out of the way. #qldpol

@Qldaah

Here's a link then.

The crisis we are in, is billionairism, no other crisis exists. All other problems are administrative. Racism is a population control system by the wealthy. Musk.

Picketty's research points to a world tax on wealth, to restore democracy, free the economy, and give us a chance on climate. It has a LOT of traction.

Billionairism is financial aneurysms, risking the life of rhe host.

In 1967, I was 18 years old and there was a Labour PM in Downing Street. He refused an offer of financial assistance from the then President Johnson in return for the deployment of British troops in Vietnam. Now there is a Labour PM in Downing Street, I am a year or two older, and the possibility of UK military assistance - this time in the Middle East - is being mooted. Time for Keir Starmer to grow a spine like Harold Wilson and tell the US that we'll sit this one out...

Things I learnt from waking down to my local shops:

A) The kids absolutely are talking about the social media ban
B) None of them like it, active discussion on what it will take away from them
C) They are sharing their personal and group plans on how they intend to bypass it

The double standard re nuclear weapons in Tehran vs Israel is mind boggling. Politicians (on both sides) banging on about how we can't possibly have Iran with nuclear weapons, oh no. .. so by implication it's perfectly fine for Israel (with their *actual* nuclear bombs) to randomly rampage around the middle east blowing ppl up, committing genocide and breaking international law. And journos not even questioning the cognitive dissonance. 😡 #AusPol #Israel
