The US issued today a NOTAM (Notice to aviation) over Venezuelan and Caribbean airspace. They are warning of a "potentially hazardous situation" and "worsening security situation and heightened military activity in or around Venezuela. Threats could pose a potential risk to aircraft..., and or airports."
Taking into account this week's reports of Politico and the NYT on US affairs in Venezuela, it is now more likely the US will be striking Venezuelan targets over the next week, if not sooner (this weekend.)
Attacking Venezuela has the primary goals of removing Maduro from power, and allowing the US to obtain Venezuelan oil and minerals at pretty much no cost and at the expense of locals.
A secondary goal is to establish the message of dominance and a warning to the rest of Latin America. Particularly those governments not fully aligned with the US. That is Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, and Honduras. Mexico is experiencing clearer and more aggressive acts of provocation from foreign agents that seek to undermine Sheinbaum's government. Honduras, on the other hand, will be having elections on Nov 30. Predictably, the United States has already inserted itself in the discourse of the Honduran elections.
Whether any attacks on Venezuela will fulfill the goals, we shall see. A land invasion might be counterproductive. The US might be betting this will be an operation like Panama '89. But it could be Trump's Vietnam.
The peoples of Latin America must resist any attempts to submit to the empire, and must avoid the collaboration with local actors enabling such attempts.
