Three ideas:
- The aim is to have minimum space in UC+UC, merely to avoid contact (think of sequences VT, FM, AN, etc.).
- Kern for all possible pairs, not only UC+LC (I agree with @alerque).
- The target is all society, not the minority of tyographers.

@TiroTypeworks @boldmonday In Keynote, Numbers and many other, maybe a character style with ‘all caps’ feature would answer for this need, but one cannot assume the user will create one. Conclusion: kern pairs at the font level.

@TiroTypeworks @boldmonday Without (not only the most basic) kerning, using any typeface on apps such as Keynote or Numbers would have terrible consequences.

Saddened to hear from colleagues about the passing of Andrew West, whose proposals and commentary were important contributions to the encoding of historical Asian scripts in Unicode.

I hope provisions have been made to maintain his BabelStone site and software.

The word 'ye' in names such as Ye Olde Inn ('the old inn') was originally simply pronounced 'the'.

The pronunciation with y is due to a misinterpretation of the first letter.

'Ye' originated as a second-best way of writing 'þe'. The first letter, þ, was called thorn. It was a letter for the th sound that originated in Old English.

Where did þ come from? How did it disappear? And why was it substituted by y in the word 'ye'?

“Where our first conference was themed around the visual experiences of writing, this one focuses on visual engagement – subtly shifting the emphasis towards active participation in practices, processes, traditions and acts of writing.”

@pagedjs exists!

if you want to have news about web2print, cssprint, html2print or any other words that transform web technologies into books or printed stuff, you’d get the latest update about paged.js from that account.

@ben I’ve just known of a Catalan/Valencian author that started putting across his fiction content. He offers newsletter or RSS, and I subscribed to two RSSs.

The calligraphy shows the English words STOP WAR. The word STOP is written in the red background colour and space between the word WAR, which is written in black underneath.

@alerque Thanks. I will try harder. (And yes, faux small caps be damned.)

There is absolutely no reason whatsoever that life needs to be as complicated as we've made it. I mean, it's already challenging just to be alive. Do we really need six kinds of insurance, 12 paid streaming services, unreadable terms and agreements, and traffic?

WE DO NOT.

@alerque A question regarding Libertinus typeface, if I may: how can I use small caps in InDesign. According to "Features.md", they can be accessed "by high-level CSS properties or values and by GUI controls in DTP software", but I don't see the way.

I think people should protest, but you may want to be careful what is on your phone. As you may recall, I work for Meta. We're currently spying on people.

We are helping the government to identify people who were in the protest. We are currently helping identify people who want to protest. We are currently helping government agents know where and when protest may happen.
