@gmc Oh, you have a diva cat who wants to be the focus of attention whenever it suits her! :-) Sweet, but not very helpful. May be see a picture?
@JenGeorge that's sweet. A writing companion who doesn't interfere with your work - ideal! May be see a picture of him?
@cadi May we see a pic of your cat? Maybe even one of her playing with your brushes? 🙂
Question for #writers: do your #cats help or hinder your #writing?
My #luckyblackcat Sulu likes to lie on the desk between my arms and watch me type. He also accompanies me when I research abandoned buildings for my creepy Gothic stories.
What about yours? Do they also take a benign interest? Or they try to distract you when you want to concentrate, or do they lie on the keyboard when you're trying to write? Or are they too busy napping to care?
@Fredatron His purr isn't loud, but once he starts, he keeps going.
@Fredatron I was worried how he would fit in. Sometimes, the established cats reject a newcomer, and sometimes, the newcomer acts like a bully. The rescuer had described his personality, so I was pretty sure he'd fit in, but she also promised that it didn't work out, she'd take him back and find him a new home. Having this option was reassuring.
As soon as the cats met, it was clear that the new kitten was a good fit. Such a relief!
Here are Uhura (Yura for short) and Janice.
T'Pau got her name because of her serene confidence and dignity, even as a kitten
@Jaq__W @phil_smith
That's a possibility, too. I think I'll run the vacuum cleaner and see how he reacts. He may flee like most cats... but if he goes to investigate how the motor works, he's going to be a Scotty!
Young McCoy got his name because he loved medical things - syringes, pill boxes - liked to lie on my covid mask (see picture) and enjoyed getting injections from the vet.😂
@phil_smith That's what I'm thinking, too. Sulu's young friend. And he kind of looks like a Chekhov, doesn't he?😀
@Fredatron Next time I have his attention, I'll tell him you called him gorgeous.
Right now, he's busy talking with one of my other cats, McCoy. It looks like they have a lot to talk about, using body language an dlittle 'me-meh' sounds.
@crcollins I named all my #cats after #StarTrek characters. Meet Lt Sulu. 😀
I'm thinking that maybe the new kitten could be a Chekhov... especially since he and Sulu have formed a bond. 😍
@Trajecient Thanks. I used to do that a lot on Twitter - where I had 130K followers, mostly writers, and interacted a lot. I initiated a lot of discussions about writing there - but I did this *after* I had connected with writers. So here on Mastodon it's the other way round, I start discussions before connecting with people?
@mcmullin Thanks. Yes, I'm a Twitter refugee. 😃
Meet my new 'kitten (still to be named). This 4-month-old black boy was found injured & paralysed. His kind rescuer took him to the vet for emergency teatment. He survived against the odds & even regained the use of his legs.
He was shy at first & hid under furniture, but my gentle adult cat Sulu encouraged him & told him that this is a good, safe place to live.
He now enjoys playing & cuddles. He adores his new big brother Sulu.

Thanks. I'm still relatively new to Mastodon and find it a bit complicated.
@lizmonster
Following hashtags is good, but I want to follow people, and that's complicated when they're not in the same instance. At least, it feels complicated to me.
Thanks. It looks like @writing.exchange is exactly what I've been looking for. Maybe I should hurry and try join before it closes? On the other hand, I want to take my time researching, because this seems a big decision.
