An astounding image of our moment at the precipice:

The cat just went over to the HomePod mini on my desk, meowed at it, and Siri said "sure here is some music for you" and the cat perched on the window sill listening to Garbage and Elliott Smith.

I just want to know how long this has been going on.

An “armed society” may or may not be a “polite society,” but it is far from being a democratic one.

There is no “justice” system.

Today, Trump Org CFO Weisselberg is being sentenced to five months jail.

On a five month sentence, he'll serve approximately 100 days.

As a public defender in Manhattan, I represented a man who was sentenced to 3-6 years (and will serve 1500+ days) for stealing a jacket.

Dragons are real. And they live in the ocean.

Blue Glaucus or “the blue dragon” is a brightly colored nudibranch that incorporates toxic chemicals & stinging cells from prey into its skin as a defense against predation.

And in my humble opinion, it’s more spectacular than anything ever imagined in Westeros. Image: Sylke Rohrlach

Did anyone see this Hallelujah paragraph in the New York Times today? Here's the part we celebrate. (Context is the current melt down of the Republican party...)

"That ideology of destruction defies characterization by traditional political labels like moderate or conservative."

nytimes.com/2023/01/05/us/poli

Did you hear that? The Times politics desk is now admitting that "conservative" is not a good name for the MAGA forces overtaking the GOP.

And it only took 12 years!

I love closing out the year with this. 😊

On December 31, 1995, exactly 27 years ago today, legendary cartoonist Bill Watterson published his final 'Calvin and Hobbes' comic strip.

How beautiful and appropriate it was, and a timeless reminder of what we have before us in 2023. ❤️

Happy New Year, ya'll!

The comic depicts snow everywhere and Calvin and Hobbes excitedly exploring a new unfamiliar world.

Not quite schadenfreude to me as that includes a "that could have been me, and so glad it is not" aspect. Most of us would, and could, NOT have done what Tate has done and did. But for instant karma?? This is IT!

Certainly much further than we were a year ago. But, for many, the realization of him being deservedly punished for a lifetime of being humanely horrific may never happen because defining humanely horrific within the dictates of breaking the law in order to receive punishment is too nebulus.
