I have encountered more image descriptions on Mastodon in 24 hours than I have in Twitter in a couple of years. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating.
As a blind person, this means a lot to me. If you read this and you describe your images, thank you so, so, so much on behalf of all of us. If you don't, now you know you'll be helping random Internet strangers make sense of your posts by typing in a few more words than usual.
The National Museum of African American History & Culture announces “Afrofuturism: A History of Black Futures” to open March 24

@woodsiegirl Are you doing your PhD remotely, low-residence, or completely in person?
Hey #librarians (esp academic librarians), what are you hearing from students about how the shutdown of #zlibrary will impact their studies?

Instead of sending $8/month to Twitter, may I suggest sending $8/month to the democracy-building work of our nonprofit newsroom at the Mississippi Free Press? ☺️
All gifts right now are triple-matched. $8 turns into $24; $96 becomes $288; etc.

Hey, folks:
I'm not sure I really know how to link to things here, but let's have a go.
Cat Keyser and I are going to be editing a special issue of Modern Fiction Studies on the topic of "Women Thinking in Public"--here's the CFP:

We'd love it if you would boost this widely!
Anyone here from #hampshirecollege?
Tomorrow is the US #election so I want to share this:
I study Congress. Not by crunching numbers, but by sitting down with people who write legislation & make recommendations for how members should vote. Rs & Ds.
And despite what politics look like in our hyper-polarized, outrage-driven, sensationalized media environment (ie #Twitter), there are still so many smart good folks we never see working hard every day to make things better.
I’m hopeful for the future. Democracy depends on us. #Vote
Hi, this is Greta. You are welcome to follow me here, if you prefer planet earth to planet mars.
@tootleapp Two issues so far (1) whenever I follow a user it leads me down a path that takes me far from the home page and the only way I can back is to close every window. Maybe I’m missing something. If so please disregard. (2) Sometimes the app is really slow. I know mastodon servers are being taxed by all the new users but the app seems slower than using a browser. Thanks for asking for feedback. I will keep using the app as my primary way of using mastodon.
Lovely essay on the craft of writing from #murakami in the Guardian today ‘I want to open a window in their souls’: Haruki Murakami on the power of writing simply | Haruki Murakami | The Guardian https://www.theguardian.com/books/2022/nov/05/i-want-to-open-a-window-in-their-souls-haruki-murakami-on-the-power-of-writing-simply
