@NormanDunbar.
Still have the puncture, been too busy cleaning to look for it.

Your autoincorrect is working overtime tonight 😁

Poor MrsD, hoping she didn't get soaked.

Good afternoon to you MrD 🙂

It's been another hot muggy day. At least the pool is up & ready for the children. Have a puncture to repair in the supporting ring.

Looks like it's going to rain this weekend. Hopefully it will make heath fires less likely. Not had any that I know of recently but then the children are still at school.

Have a good evening!

Digital Equity

I grew up in Wales during a time when our language and culture were under pressure. That experience shaped my belief in the importance of digital spaces where people can speak their own language, connect locally, and be truly seen. This is why I care so deeply about language and regional inclusion in the Fediverse. The tools we use shape the communities we build. If we want a more equitable, pluralistic digital future, we must design for it – starting with language, location, and the right to participate fully.

I am beyond pleased to share that I am featured in the latest issue of the world renowned Smithsonian Magazine (July/August 2025).

To see my drystone work, and my voice, recognised, and to take up space in a field where women are still few and far between, means more than I can say.

I was so proud to show my daughters this.

Magazine spread from Smithsonian Magazine (July/August 2025) featuring Kristie De Garis and fellow drystone waller Tara Whitcher The main photo shows both seated on a large pile of stones, smiling in workwear, with an autumnal landscape behind them. Smaller photos show Kristie pushing a bright orange Belle wheelbarrow and Tara shaping stone beside a chicken. The layout includes photo credits, a caption naming Kristie, and a short article excerpt discussing the craft and philosophy of drystone walling.

Here are your questions for this week, Thursday 3rd July, at 8pm UK time.

Please remember to tag us in your responses, and use the #MakersHour tag.
Thank you.

Q1: Hi, Introduce yourself as if you were a film super villain, who would be your superhero nemesis?

Q2: As Makers, Crafters, and Creative folks, we all need a bit of time out, be that reading, films, music, gaming, cosplay, what have you. Do you look for something that actively involves your creativity as the subject, or do you avoid it for the escapism? Tell us about it.

Q3: Does your making combine well with food? If not, how could you make it edible, and what fancy name might you give it on a ‘posh restaurant’ menu?

Q4: If you were to go travelling, and took one of your creations to show people what you can do, what would you take and why that one?

Q5: Do you have a mascot, companion, stuffie, pet, etc. that keeps you company while you are working on a project? Share a photo if you like.

Good morning to you 🙂

🤞Fingers crossed for the house. You both must be very excited at finally getting somewhere.

Our eldest and his wife have just started the ball rolling on the purchase of their first property. It's only a few minutes from us and is a good size house for them, with a big enough garden for the children.

The weather here is hot and humid and due to get hotter. Based on your picture, you definitely need the rain!!

Have a good day, enjoy the gin 😁

We used to live on the edge of one of the local heaths. There were Heath fires regularly, I put out one, having chased the little sh*t off, helped deal with another and seen a number of others damaging the place.

That's good news at last. Hope everything goes well this time.

Still hot and muggy down here. Local woodland rave got a talking to after a fire got out of hand. Hope the wildfires get dampened down. Only a couple of weeks or so before the start of kiddy fire season.

Have a good sleep 😀

Good afternoon to you MrD.

Phew it's warm again.

How's the house hunting going, have you tried sneaking up on one before it has time to become unattractive to you and MrsD?

Another nice picture for your collection.

Have a good evening.
