The desire to exclusively engage with media and art made by “unproblematic” artists is a direct result of Americans viewing media consumption as an inherently political act because that is the supreme promise of Western prosperity and the religion of consumerism, and because it’s seemingly all that’s left. We’ve been stripped and socialized out of any real political energy and agency. Our ability to consume is the only thing remaining that’s “ours” in late capitalism, and as a result it’s become a stand-in for (or perhaps the sole defining quality of) every aspect of being alive today — consuming is activism, it’s love, it’s thinking, it’s sex, it’s fill in the blank. When the act of consuming is all you have left and indeed the only thing society tells you is valuable and meaningful, the act must necessarily be a moral one, which is why people send themselves down manic spirals deciding what, who is “problematic” or not, because for us the stakes are that high now.

It's been a while since I've posted anything here. I just haven't had much motivation lately. We're going to have our yearly Christmas family visit, soon. This is usually a very stressful time of year. I love my family and look forward to seeing them, but I don't look forward to the inevitable drama.

Abandoned malls in good condition should be converted into apartments. It's been done before. Food courts could serve the same purpose they have before. Larger-scale stores could be converted into recreational areas. Opinions? #Malls

In a recent D&D session, our DM awarded me a feat. My halfling rogue, Rufus Tealeaf gained the shadow touched feat. He can now cast Invisibility & Inflict Wounds once per day (after a long rest). Long story short: Rufus ended up in the Shadowfell, smoked unidentified weed which turned him into a beacon for their monsters, got into a fight, was wounded, and then some blood splashed into his wounds. He also got a nice +2 dagger out of the deal

When I ordered this tapestry, I chose one that could be customized. I added a design consisting of a Narra tree featuring the Filipino sun and stars above it. For the background color, I chose black. Half of the Filipino sun is blue and the other half is red. As is typical, there are 3 yellow 5-pointed stars underneath the sun.

My days on the Site Formerly Known As Twitter are probably coming to a close. Since I rely on Dragon NaturallySpeaking to navigate my computer and the program barely works with the Site Formerly Known As Twitter, there's not much point in posting & replying. I can't post without my computer slowing to the speed of a snail. Same with replying. If this is some ploy to coerce some of us into buying a subscription, fuck that noise.

It never ceases to be frustrating how there are still people who deny climate change is a problem. I often find their attitude comes with a big dose of "fuck you, I got mine!"
