@shemjm zorin is a real linux distribution. If you want fiddle more with the internals, something like linux from scratch, arch of even slackware is nice. But I would recommend installing this in a virtual machine on top of your zorin setup. This way you get a nice way to explore without making things really interesting too soon.

@koen een opleiding ‘hoe steek je iets in de cloud' lijkt me prima, het gaat mis op het vlak van Europese alternatieve voor ‘cloud' . De abstracties die ‘cloud' bieden zijn best waardevol. Jammer dat Europa er zo in achterblijft.

In other news heb ik in mijn homelab inmiddels een representatieve en werkende mastodon setup als testomgeving voor mastodon.nl.

Al sinds november 2022 zijn grotere upgrades op mastodon.nl een beetje te spannend omdat we geen goed gelijkende testomgeving hadden. Voor de kleinere updates was dat niet erg, maar er moeten ook weer een keer grotere zaken aangepakt worden. Zoals de upgrade van Debian11 systemen naar Debian12.

Maar nu kan dit dus goed getest/geprobeerd worden. Nice

Today I had my second Raspberry Pi 4 die on me in a couple of weeks. Both having issues with the USB controller it seems, so it cannot reliable use the USB boot disk. This leaves just one Pi4 still at work. The tasks running on the Pi4 that gave in were moved to an older Mac Mini. Hopefully this will continue to run for some time to come.

If the EDPB doesn't oppose Meta's "Pay or Okay" model, other companies will soon follow suit.

Because privacy cannot become a privilege, we urge the EDPB, together with 28 other NGOs, to defend the fundamental right to data protection!
