A new kind of hero.. a groundhog hero.. Crowfighter! 🥊
@kwramm Have had this thought too.
In the current world climate, personally, I'd love to get involved with politics or community organization stuff if I left games. Probably in a non-games software dev role, or otherwise in some support capacity.
Software isn't a solution to anything, but it can be a solid tool - and I see so many needs that could be tooled better. (but lack the bandwidth to do it on the side)
"See a need, fill a need"
Transitioning away from gamedev? I turned 49 and I still love games as ever. But I've been wondering if game dev (the industry), and IT in general, is still the right career for the next 15 (20???) years.
Anyone here doing something totally different now? (maybe just do gamedev as a hobby?)
What are you doing now? and how hard was it?
As a scientist, watching my scientist circle of people, I wish more people who care about climate data being buried(as they should) had cared about COVID data being buried. That was the time to draw a line in the sand. Now that everyone believes COVID is gone, the same people are pretty sure that they can make everyone believe climate change is gone in exactly the same way.
If you don't like the COVID example, you can insert a number of things that politicians won't talk about there. It still works, just perhaps not as recently prescient.
Although one scientist I know who has used "in the pandemic" when talking to me, texted me "Ever since the pandemic started" yesterday, and I guess small wins are still wins, even if they're too late.
I used to jump through these hoops, but I just jump to level 5 these days because I'm legitimately so tired of this bullshit and I don't feel I need to sugar coat my words to make someone feel better when their abject disregard for their fellow humans disgusts me. These people include my family members who know that I am at risk and ignore it completely. And no, i'm not CWing it because enough with people burying their heads over it. I often wonder if the biggest symptom of covid brain damage is the loss of empathy and how our actions affect others, but sadly it's probably just the reality of selfish humanity.
If you don't mask, you need to accept that you are an ableist who doesn't give a fuck about anyone, including yourself, but you especially give the finger to any disabled person you know.
@whitequark well-placed sarcasm can be fun.
It can also be used for softening frustration or a hard topic like the jokey, "Yeah, they're /totally/ going to do their homework on time," vs a frustrated or angry, "They won't do their homework on time."
Like all things, tho, sarcasm has its time and place. If someone in the convo doesn't like it, then that's not a time to use it
@jplebreton Yes! All of this
all of these products overfit a generic implementation of frame interpolation without understanding (or caring about) the importance of timing fs /∆\
Or the defining traits of a limited animation style
It could be /better/ if the tools were artist driven instead of "plug in video, git gud output", where someone defines animation curves (including intentional hold frames) and manual object masks.
It'd still lose the visual identity of limited animation tho
@eramdam Oh yo we had something like that a few weeks ago. It was the worst, lasted a week and a half, and then the post-nasal drip and coughing was like a whole month affair after
Same thing - none of COVID, strep, or flu so no clue what it was
Hope you're feeling better, or will soon
Indian ink and watercolors, then a few edits on Photoshop
Wait, Microsoft Office really got rebranded as CoPilot?
Really?
REALLY?
The Streisand effect says that this becomes a much bigger story now that Patel, Bongino and Bondi are covering it up. They told us before they had a list and the cameras were all broken.
Reminder that our game is on sale until THIS FRIDAY!
I think we had all noticed that reported wastewater levels weren't corresponding to the infection rates that we were seeing within our own communities.
I thought the 2020's had fully kicked the capacity for false hope straight out of my soul, but it turns out that I was still foolishly grasping for reasons why the low wastewater levels 'must' be 'true'.
nope. 💀 this is so depressing.
Do you ever think about how pixel art predates pixels? Like, people have been doing images using little squares and stitches and stuff in mosaics and textile arts like quilting and cross stitch since forever.
Are you still on #Spotify?
Spotify’s CEO Daniel Ek has raised €600M for his new startup, which is developing AI TECH FOR WAR. Ek still owns 9% of Spotify, but has 37% voting control. His net worth went from $2.5B to $10B in the last two years alone, on the back of paying musicians a pittance in royalties.
And don’t forget:
• Spotify spent $250M of your subscription dollars to invite Joe Rogan to spew his disinformation on their platform.
• They’re still trying to embrace and extinguish Podcasts.
• They’re developing in-house, AI-generated “music” so users will play them (royalty-free) instead of music created by humans (who demand royalty).
And now, he’s using his wealth, created by your subscriptions, to fund tech that will use AI to literally murder humans in war.
Stop funding him. Quit Spotify now.

Three days in, Ingram Micro have updated their website to say they’re having a cybersecurity incident. They’ve also linked their press release, calling it ransomware. https://www.ingrammicro.com/
It’s a smart play as it makes them the owner of the narrative.
