Wheelchair-using child who was harassed at bus stop honored by veteran with disability

"Sirus Miklos, a seven-year-old boy born with spinal muscular atrophy, has had to deal with bullying for the last few months, but by his peers at school. For weeks, impatient drivers have been harassing, yelling, and honking at the child, who uses a wheelchair, while he gets on and off of his school bus each day."

Drivers being awful once more.

I'm openly shocked. People here know how much I'm involved in tech and innovation, how I tend to find the good side from everything. How I use AI but not solely relying on it.
But in the bot boosting disability-related posts I found a French user talking of "leftist anti-AI ideology / Linux is ableist like Windows" etc. Placing politics before tech usage. We had an Italian celebrity in theater and even songs, his name was Giorgio Gaber and one of his song sounded like this:
"what's the right, and what's the left? If you take a bath you are right-wing, if you take a shower you are leftist". And it continued with other everyday life choices. Just an ironic song, but it could be renewed with "big tech is the right, open source is the left", and so on.
I find that extremism brings nowhere. You can get the good and bad from everything. I'm the first to say that open source operating systems are less careful of disability than closed, but it's not directly intentional; it's due to their users percentage. Depending on how they're popular in public administrations spaces, with laws covering accessibility, Linux is still perceived as a niche and Android, Android is too fragmented, every company has its customization, and this is its good and its bad.
But licking AI companies' boots while being aggressive with others, is not the right approach. I rarely block someone on the Fediverse but when I see someone showing teeth and growling when talking, I think it's not worth the effort of trying a discussion.

y'know what? maybe the empaths are right. maybe there really IS a class of violent subhumans controlling society from the shadows & responsible for every atrocity in human history. it is purely a coincidence that those diagnosed as members of this class are disproportionately poor and / or BIPOC

After asking for help on the WSJT-X Group, Joe Subich, W4TV, responded in part: "If you want an alternative interface, I suggest you study the UDP capability and create your own application rather than harass the WSJTX developers into diverting significant development resources from improving the base application for all users and into capabilities that will benefit a very small percentage of the user base. @gl33p There's some urbanist acct like "Needling ___" that tried to get their followers after me because I pointed out their ableism.

And I have to say in general that many urbanists are really unwilling to examine their ableism and the role they play in keeping certain things in place that should not be in place when renovating or planning new infra. #Ableism #Urbanism

Make an exhibit of it in a couple places so people in a better, more accessible world we build can look at it and cluck to themselves that things used to be built that way.

But get rid of cobbles and develop more level permeable aesthetic surfaces. And one way to do that is to remove barriers between disabled people and schools and workplaces. Disabled people should be in these design and planning jobs. #Ableism #Urbanism

🧵 A recurring feature of photos of European infrastructure that (esp North American) urbanists like to post on social media is cobblestones. I'll admit they look aesthetically pleasing. But talk to folks with disabilities that affect their mobility and you will hear how much they SUCK. Yet urbanists keep posting them in photos of how idyllic and human-centric they think European infra is.

I've been in Albania for 6 months now, in two cities (the capital and a smaller city). #Urbanism #Ableism

PhD Fellowship in Urban Morphology, Accessibility and Mobility Cultures

A PhD where I really think someone with disabilities that affect their mobility should apply. Unfortunately, bullshit like "ability to...handle a heavy workload" means it'll probably be abled urbanists doing things disabled people should be doing.

And yet, can’t get a shot (easily) in Stockholm/Sweden unless you are what they call „risk group“.

Canada’s unions echo the call: End disability poverty now | Canadian Labour Congress

@pesh Yup.

I'm not saying that one shouldn't defend funding for programs like that just because of the name. But the framing is built in and to a large extent it was the separate but unequal system that framing is part of that makes it so easy to target right now.

It's "them", it's "extra" expense, etc. #Ableism

How about you do an exposé on what happens to those rich students when they're actually caught cheating to get those few accommodations reserved for disabled students in higher ed? If it's so fucking important to you, surely you've made it so that they're expelled, have to make restitution to disabled people, and no one will hire them since they're liars, right? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varsity_ #Ableism #Plutocracy #HigherEd

And that those wealthy are the ones who create our system, which includes systemic ableism - which rations accessibility and polices disabled people constantly, creating a system that is brutal for honest people but can be gamed by those willing to cheat. (And there's a huge overlap between "rich" and "willing to cheat".) Instead of making education accessible to all and creating something that assesses *learning* instead of whether someone can fill out a Scantron well by a deadline? #Ableism
