Train (2023) | #PixelArt
Board games, Film, JRPGs, and ethics in tech. Mostly harmless.
@Rakun haven't played either of those. I'm assuming you're talking about the PS 1 Grandia? I did have that one and Valkyrie profile on my backlog, but hadn't gotten around to trying them!
One of the main feature of the #fediverse, is to be able to block a full instance if that instance is tolerating or even encouraging behaviors that your users don’t want.
If instances become too big, you have two options:
1. Block way too much innocent persons, making your users complains that they can’t contact their friends anymore.
2. Don’t block it and lose the feature of offering a safe space.
@aral repeated this enough: the secret sauce is to not allow instances to grow too big.
@miona not from a "space" game per se, but tell me this doesn't perfectly fit in a space themed playlist — https://youtube.com/watch?v=N8OHSXvneOE
(Plus the title also kinda fits!)
"meta" drama:
seems stupid to paint the anti-meta sentiment as strictly a one-sided, like oh they want to be your friends but you won't let them
facebook's gonna be forced to defed/censor me and my friends eventually anyway — for occasional nudity on the TL, for posting incredibly mean things about conservatives, for breaking some kind of information embargo the big companies are trying to enforce, for generally being a little bit unruly in a way the big companies don't like
Here is a statement from Kolektiva regarding Facebook ("Meta") soon launching a new app ("Threads" or "Project92") which will reportedly use ActivityPub and interoperate or federate with parts of the Fediverse.
Kolektiva was founded as a direct result of anarchist and antifascist projects being kicked off of Facebook in 2020. Our entire "raison d'etre" is to provide an independent autonomous alternative to corporate social media. We exist in opposition to Facebook and their ilk. We have no interest in federating with a network operated and controlled by Meta, even if it becomes technically possible.
Meta has shown its values and actions are not just incompatible with our world view but openly hostile towards it. Whereas we create a world based on mutual aid and voluntary cooperation Meta necessitates conflict and systems of domination in order to profit.
Kolektiva.social will not federate with whatever Meta's future presence on the Fediverse looks like. We will continue to strive towards a larger, more decentralized and anarchist Fediverse. We choose our autonomy and trust in the social experiment / counter culture we are co-creating with others who do not wield such abhorrent systems of power over us.
@semicoop …thanks for telling me that I'm in stage 3 now 😅
New comics! We forgot to post last week's comic here, so you get two this week, apologies! :D
My favourite games from the #Steam #NextFest so far:
- Stray Gods
- The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood
- Hidden Through Time 2
- Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew
- Little Kitty, Big City
- F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch
- House Flipper 2
- Laysara: Summit Kingdom
- Paleo Pines
- Crossover: Roll For Initiative
Can recommend these. <3
@jaedia absolutely can't wait for Stray Gods and Little kitty, Big city.
@Sibshops I'd never heard of this game/series. Will look it up! Thanks!
@Jilliterate I was really into roadwarden when I first started it, but then got a little lost after reaching Foggy lake and kinda gave up 😅 maybe I'll give it another shot!
@potato_hijinks Would you recommend Trails in the sky as a starting point? Or is starting with cold steel better for someone who knows nothing about the story?
Also omg yes! TWEWY and even Neo TWEWY were so so good!
@chris Ooh! I haven't hadn't of Troubleshooter or any of the games in your Next fest list except Sea of stars (which I'm dying to play when it comes out!).
I've heard good things about the Trails series but I've been intimidated by them because they're all connected 😅
Also big fan of Divinity and I loved the art in Eastward! I reached the 500 character limit so some of these didn't make the list 😝
Thanks so much for the recommendations! Will check em out!
Lately I've been kinda disappointed by RPG/JRPGs and I need some recommendations.
Newer RPGs that I've enjoyed (although writing is underwhelming on some):
- Chained Echoes
- Citizen Sleeper
- Disco Elysium
- Octopath Traveler I & II
- Live A Live
- Persona 4 & 5
Please no action adventure/hack & slash/souls games! Also, I grew up on 90s RPGs so I've already played through the Chrono, Mana, Final fantasy, Lufia, and the Golden Sun series.
@abhibeckert @dark_stang where are you getting all of this from?! Apps run in the background all the time, and there were mobile XMPP clients around back in the day. Pretty sure even Skype did XMPP for a bit.
@Dee_Imaginarium @giallo I wish most Mastodon instances were planning to defederate from Meta by default but sadly that's not the case. Meta reached out to the admins of some of the big instances and a whole bunch of them don't plan to. One of the admins shared this — https://fosstodon.org/@kev/110592625692688836
Some admins are going for a "trust but verify" approach. These are the only instances which have agreed to defederate from the start —https://fedipact.online/
