@jmc this is where it appears to hang on both machines, the top process on htop appears to be doing something, but it stays that way until I give up waiting (i left it overnight once).

Also, interestingly, the ksh93 process does not die when I Ctrl-C the nightly script.

I wondered if it could just be taking a really really long time due to the git status in oh-my-bash.

I have saved the log too, if you want it, but don't think i can post that here.

@jmc I'm going to try and reproduce it on a second computer.

I was surprised restoring the original .bashrc worked, I assumed it was something else I was doing wrong - I suppose it may have been a coincidence.

If I can reproduce it, I'll save the log.

finally managed to build #illumos on my #openindiana install. It turns out there is some incompatibility with oh-my-bash (it would never finish) but restoring the stock bashrc for my user fixed it.

Nick Clegg says that a law requiring tech companies to ask permission to train AI on copyrighted work would ‘kill’ the industry, according to The Times.

Okay, maybe let it die then. Maybe we can get back to building tech that actually works rather than hyping up hallucinating plagiarism machines in order to fluff up corporate quarterly reports.

If generative AI just went away tomorrow, it would be a net positive for the world.

Now, I've been messing with it again and have set up a new BBS starlight.

Lawrence Stockman owns talismanbbs.org and is hosting a documentation site there! I've been working on talisman again and merging to Lawrence's repository!

@cross I think it depends on what you define as cranks and extremists. In my involvement with FTN nets, it seems to be conservatives being conservative and holding on to what they know.
