When writing, I have always tried to imagine encountering my text from the perspective of other human readers. I do this in the hope of refining both what I say and how I say it. Recently, I’ve begun to feel a machinic apparatus in the audience. Its presence is unwelcome, and leaves me second guessing what little intuition I have in anticipating the meaning derived by my readers. Not because I’m imagining encountering my text from the perspective of such machines, but as humans fooled by them.
