It's fascinating how similar developers' experience with AI is to writers'. People think AI is the magic pill to generating content faster. It isn't.

Even under the hands of experienced writers, the productivity gains can be questionable. I do have a system where I get the output I want, but it involves writing a robust outline and a lot of checking (because despite it all, AI still veers off course and gets "creative"). All this time piles up and at most you maybe save a few hours.

What AI does, however, is reduce your cognitive load, which means you do not exhaust your brain so quickly. Which means maaaaybe you don't burn out as quickly. But due to expectations that you should be able to do more faster, even these gains are being put at risk 😵‍💫

This expectation that you can do more with AI? I want that myth to bust soon.

What a wild day at #work. I asked #ChatGPT if there was any way I could leverage my #Ollama local LLM engine to help me feed small models that work well on my MBP/M4 and the answer is a glorious yes! So #ChatGPT wrote a Python script, automating it all, so all I need to do is run Ollama on a workhorse machine, point my script at it, and it methodically touches all the office types, text types, and image types and summarizes the text and images into a markdown file! That’s amazing!

A QS at work today was doing magic tricks at the request of the commercial manager. The latter instantly turned into a giggly child. I was thrilled, too.
