@tomk 🤣

These mastodon apps were not built for people with fat fingers. I can’t draft a toot without accidentally starting a poll or adding a GIF.

@beckalina same. It’s unfortunate because it’s one of the few ways I do discover interesting things here, but if I see more than like 5 boosts from one person in an hour, they’re done. Thankfully I did figure out that you can go to someone’s profile just block their boosts. A few still are worth following without boosts.

@diewillnurWein we’re too busy dodging bullets.

Is it ever necessary (or possible) for a Mastodon instance to force a client to reauthorize with Oauth? In the situation where a client won’t attempt a new authorization because of its own stored tokens? Is that a thing?

One thing I don’t think I’ll ever understand about Portland is ā€˜brunch culture’.

The last thing I want to do on a weekend morning is spend an hour and a half in line with a couple dozen unkempt hipsters and then wait another 45 minutes to an hour for some sketchy eggs Benedict.

Give me a greasy spoon diner with a server named Nancy who smells of smoke and calls me ā€˜honey’ any day. The whole family will have eaten and be out the door in 35 minutes.

Here in Portland, a household needs to make $126,000 per year with a $100k down payment in order to qualify for a median priced house ($543,308), based on underwriting standards.

This is assuming very little other debt. Young people just starting out in life usually have much lower incomes, too.

Unfortunately this is just unattainable for most people. Median household income is $78,476 for all households, and $114,400 for a family of 4. Our system is broken.

Hear me out: LinkedIn posts should have Reddit style down voting.

Having been on Bluesky for a couple weeks now, I can see that it’s turning out to be a carbon copy of Twitter. Mastodon still seems way more positive to me.

I wish 1/10th the people who are fanatical about Teslas and generative AI and cryptocurrency would care about good urbanism.

There are few things I miss more than summer weekends on a lake somewhere in northern Michigan. Seeing everyone’s pictures this time of year sure doesn’t make that any easier on me.

Oregon has a lot going for it, but that kind of lake cottage experience just isn’t one of them.

What’s one band you used to listen to (or still do) that never got any traction in terms of popularity?

One rabbit hole I find myself in sometimes is looking up bands who disbanded or who had one or two hits and then faded away. Often you can still find a few of the former members on YouTube.

Neil Young is often quoted with the lyric, ā€œIt’s better to burn out than to fade away.ā€ I choose neither.

In a former life, I thought I wanted to be a big-time musician, but I’m glad I wasn’t. I’d much rather have the humble life I’ve lived in relative quiet and near total anonymity.

That Bill Burr bit where he talks about his wife finding open days on the calendar and filling them up with shit? No truer words have ever been spoken.

@KevinLikesMaps @SimpleRobC the only folks I know personally who don’t support Ukraine are my ultra left friends.

First harvest.

@marioguzman By the way, I’d you got your Toyota in 2021 and have a sub 3% interest rate like I do, it might be better to not pay it off given inflation.

@patc @marioguzman that’s got to be majority oil changes. Toyota didn’t get to where they are now by having to put that much maintenance into their vehicles. We’ve had 3 over the last 8 years and I’ve not needed a single repair on any of them, just oil and tire rotations.
