delighted to announce that my new zine "The Secret Rules of the Terminal" is out today!!

You can get it for $12 USD here: wizardzines.com/zines/terminal

The Secret Rules of the Terminal, by Julia Evans - The cover illustration depicts three people doing arcane terminal magic in a temple with a smoking censer in the background. Each of the three people has curly brown hair and light brown skin. They are all wearing dresses, billowing cloaks, and utility belts with keyboard symbols on them. The one on the left holds a palette of paints and a brush. The one on the right has a staff with a $ symbol on it and a starfish at the top. The one in the centre has a sword and is reading from a book whose cover says “>_” and “./”, which rests on a lectern with a smiling snake wrapped around it.

I take it all back. $45 million was a small price to pay to humiliate President Trump at his own parade and mobilize millions of Americans across the nation to demonstrate against him.

@bleepbloop ooh I like this! I’m a big fan of Mark Pritchard - he’s a legend on his own. Thank you 🙏

@bleepbloop I love amnesiac. I revoke my comment about OK Computer. It’s great but much more rock than experimental

@bleepbloop Amnesiac and Ok Computer would be the closest in style & quality to Kid A. I would also recommend Thom Yorke’s solo album The Eraser if you like this era of Radiohead.

Capitalism didn't give us the internet.

Large-scale cooperation, open protocols, and free software gave us the internet. Capitalism gave us mobile sites that don't work because fifteen ads cover the screen.

I will be talking soooo much more about this in the coming weeks, but the collective knowledge-building mutual aid project I've been working on with friends and fellow travelers is starting to emerge into the world, and this is where to sign up if you want notifications. Boop:

Added a new convenience transducer for clipping and binning values, e.g. as preparation step for histogram generation whilst working in the REPL. New release forthcoming. A small code example attached (actually taken from the doc string of the new `binned()` transducer).

#ThingUmbrella #Transducers #FunctionalProgramming #ASCIIArt #DataViz #TypeScript #JavaScript

Screenshot of syntax-highlighted TypeScript source code to compute histogram of 1 million gaussian random samples (aka normal distribution), using binned values and discard those outside configured interval. The histogram is then sorted by (bin) position and the values plotted as ANSI-art diagram

@bleepbloop ahhh, amazing! I'm in the US, but have been an avid follower of UK music since ~30 years ago when I got really into jungle. Long ago for my 30th birthday I visited London & Bristol on a "techno pilgrimage" to see my music at the source. I love to hear said stories!

It's an unmarked remix of this excellent 1988 acid house tune by 808 State - "Flow Coma":
