Notable features in the @megalodon mobile app include:

* Long press the interaction buttons (reply, boost, fave, bookmark) to do those actions with a different account than the current one

* Drafts and scheduled posts

* On boost long press, "Post about this" (#QuoteBoost via new post with URL link)

* Long press share button to copy the post URL in one step

Give #Megalodon a try. The official #Mastodon mobile app has dropped several *critical* fedi features, and Megalodon fixes them.

@megalodon heck yeah! One AMAZING feature would be able to have tabs for the lists on the home page of the app, or at least some quicker way to get to them. It's currently around five taps after opening the app to get to a feed of a list which is… a lot. I'd even love to be able to set a single list as my main feed to filter out some of the noise of accounts I follow.

Feedback wanted! I'm making a map style using #GNOME color palette and design guidelines. You can preview it at maps.jwestman.net.

In particular, I'd like to know if it
- looks nice,
- is easy to read,
- emphasizes places/roads/etc. appropriately for their actual importance

@garrett I am very much not far. I think I have only come across the second uh, place-where-I-have-a-private-room (I forget what they call them with the terminals and fabricators). It has been slow going for me, just like an hour or so each night I have been able to play for the last week.

Also, GREAT source of new music for me to listen to. I absolutely love how they handled the music for this game with a ton of compelling, tonally-perfect music they licensed and feature prominently—with on-screen credits!—in the game. It feels like they are acknowledging and appreciating the different forms of art that make up a game, and aren’t shy about it.

I absolutely love it.

I have been playing Death Stranding for the past few days, and DANG I regret sleeping on this game until now! It’s so refreshing to play a game that is challenging, engaging, and not just “shoot all the bad guys lol,” at least so far. The main foe so far is the environment, and it is quite the opponent.

GTK folks: do you know of a way (or "the right way") to know if my app/a widget is actually *using* the font specified? For example, if my CSS says to use font "Foo," but that font isn't installed?

I poked a little bit at PangoFontDescription but it looks like it will return the requested font description for the context and not actually what's being used.

Ah, no, I misremembered: the new Nest Protect I installed today was in a different hallway. The one that sounded the alarm was the one that had been installed for about a week without issues—with the same candle having been blown out multiple times.

I guess it was extra smoky? 🕯️

Pretty neat that they are all meshed together even without a hardwire, but even more annoying for nuisance alarms.

It was the first time any of them had gone off since installing the first several months ago, though.

I installed a brand new Nest Protect smoke/CO alarm today aaaand then I blew out a candle and it immediately went off, blaring all the alarms around the house. 🤦‍♂️

To be fair, it was a pretty smoky candle and the smoke detector is right outside the bathroom door where the candle was, but I thought it would have given me more of a heads up before blaring all the alarms.

If there was a real, unexpected fire, I would have been grateful. But what a nuisance of a first impression. 😅

I think this is important for literally anyone as a defensive mechanism, but in this age of disinformation, it’s ESPECIALLY important to verify public voices are who they say they are.

If you see a celebrity, public official, well-known person from an open source project, or even just an “influencer” on Mastodon without being verified, I would encourage you to ask them to verify their account before following them. Even the most legit looking accounts can be automated and abused down the line.

@patrickstewart ha, especially with a—well—unique name like yours. 😅

@eljefedsecurit it was just one example that people may be able to relate to, but consider any other way someone could anonymously use the trust of a bunch of people for ill. Verifying accounts helps make the platform as a whole more trustworthy and safer.

As a single data point, I am far more likely to follow someone if I can click through to their verified site from their profile—otherwise, I don’t really know or trust who that person says they are.

If you don’t have a website that proves who you are, then you can go a little more creative and old school/manual. Here is one idea:

If you have a known account on another platform like Twitter, post a link to your Mastodon account ON TWITTER, then put a link to that post either on your profile or as a pinned post here on Mastodon. That way if anyone wants to check, they can quickly verify your Mastodon account is associated with that other account.

The best way to protect yourself and those who follow you from being the target of that kind of scam—in addition to lots of other, even more nefarious attacks—is to verify your account with a URL of a website! If you don’t have a website, I’ll get to that, but let’s start here.

docs.joinmastodon.org/user/pro

Basically, add a special link to your Mastodon account on a known site that represents you, then put a link to THAT site in your Mastodon profile. It’ll show as a verified URL!

So many people are joining Mastodon and missing one crucial step: verifying your account!

You might think, “I’m not important, why should I care?” Think about it as a way to protect anyone who follows you. Consider:

1. Someone sets up an account claiming to be you, automatically grabbing real posts from somewhere else

2. They get a bunch of followers

3. They post, “really struggling this month, a little could go a long way” with a link to Cash App

How would any followers know it was a scam?

@Joaquincastrotx it’s great to see you on Mastodon! Would you be able to verify your account so people know it’s actually you? In the age of disinformation, it’s more important than ever to verify important voices are who they say they are.

docs.joinmastodon.org/user/pro

Basically, add a special link to your Mastodon account on a known site that represents you, e.g. castro.house.gov or castroforcongress.com, then put a link to THAT site in your Mastodon profile. It’ll show as a verified URL.

Ok, I have to admit: I have absolutely been sleeping on WebP for my personal blog.

2624px wide WebP image at 70% quality = 60kb. AKA smaller weight than the smallest PNG (768px wide) I was saving for my srcset.

With 96% support on Can I Use, screw it: I’m all in on WebP now. caniuse.com/webp
