@lukhash fedi is definitely tracking me... This morning I'm listening to ready player one, a chapter that specifically calls out halliday's purchase of one of the original deloreans _and_ the creation of the oasis and how he sold his first games at the local computer shop. Then I'm thinking, damn, how to homebrew stuff today? Sell dvd/Blu-ray RWs with your software so it can be played (and/or modified)? Sounds pretty sick.
And here we are, you're literally in my brain. Wtf.

@dgar I didn't find this that funny. Like naut-ic-al.
@deFractal @thedarktangent @pluralistic Jeff Bezos talking about how some brewery used to make its own electricity & talking about how everyone used to do that. My dude just discovered there was a time when the means of production weren't homogenous.
In honor of Meta's latest announcement, a thread on 175 years of 3D failure.
Let's first go all the way back to 1851 with the Brewster Stereoscope. No less a person than Queen Victoria was impressed, kicking off a fad that quickly sold over 250,000 units. Turns out it was not the future of photography.

Last December I bought a used supermicro board, memory, 1u case, PSU, 3x 1t. Drives, fans, cables, all in for like $1200-$1300 round about. I'm looking for another of the same board to basically duplicate the build but only seeing brand new boards at about $1200 - nothing else. Feel like I've bought my last computer for a while, and I'm really thankful I got the screaming deal on this board/128G memory/case/PSU for $800 last year. It's been good fun labbing with it.
@aaron awesome. I built one of the esp32 emulated imsai clones, which is fun. But those rc2014s with actual z80s look extra fun!
