Our union stewards share their 2024 reflections:
💬 “This year, we fought hard for fairness and equity, and it paid off.”
💬 “Seeing our team unite after the layoffs reminded me why unions matter.”
📊 2024 By the Numbers:
* 66 workers are now covered by our contract
* $25K will be distributed to impacted workers
* Dozens of hours were spent advocating for a better career ladder and promotion process.
We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Onward to 2025! 💪
@soaproot Great question!
We ratified our contract in October 2023, and its benefits became effective in full on Jan 1 2024. This is also the time when our stewards became active and we started to navigate what it's like to have a contract.
2024 was a year of challenges and triumphs for CFA Workers United. 🛠️ In the aftermath of layoffs, we stood together, navigated our first contract, and emerged stronger.
📈 Highlights from this year:
* Advocated for laid-off colleagues.
* Established our first-ever contract, ensuring better protections for all workers.
* Strengthened our collective voice in the workplace.
Our story is proof that solidarity works. Together, we can overcome anything. 💪✨
Through the CFA Workers United's solidarity fund, we've been able to help more than 30 workers cover expenses after layoffs, as well as providing support to active members navigating unexpected life circumstances.

The job market is tough. 7 months post layoffs, we’re still receiving requests for financial support from our solidarity fund. We’re raising $10,000 to bridge the gap for our former coworkers as they look for new positions. Please donate (https://venmo.com/u/CfAWorkersSolidarity) and share! #union #solidarity #mutualaid
The team at @bandcampunited have posted on their IG page about a Health Solidarity Fund that's been set up to assist those laid off -- predominantly, as they note, Black & trans/non-binary/gender former employees -- with gaps in necessary health coverage. Spread the word. https://www.instagram.com/p/Czt2jLKu5SJ/

“Because we were laid off with only two weeks left in the month, my COBRA was not yet activated when I went to pick up my meds last week. The out-of-pocket cost amounts to almost a thousand dollars.
The reimbursement process may take a long time, and for many folks in our bargaining unit, carrying a thousand-dollar balance can be a financial hardship.” — BCU member"

Because of the timing of the layoffs in October, there was a lapse in coverage, which they’re entitled to as part of their severance. This fund will help bridge the gap while waiting for reimbursement.
We wanted to share additional layoff demographic information. These numbers include the whole staff at Bandcamp (including non-union eligible workers), but it is important context as we return to effects bargaining with Epic Games on 11/9.
We're back in bargaining with Epic Games over severance for laid off Bandcamp United workers-- we're all ready to fight after checking out all yr recs, we truly appreciate the love the Bandcamp community has shown us all.
❤️ 💪
Congratulations and onwards, @bandcampunited!
We wanted to share some demographics around these layoffs so our supporters are able to follow along. These numbers include the whole staff at Bandcamp (including non-union eligible workers), but are important to keep in mind as we continue to negotiate severance with Epic Games.

We are ever humbled and thankful for your support. Solidarity forever ✊
Story on @sfgate reporting on a press release from @bandcampunited earlier today and yeahhhh, not good: "The job cuts disproportionately hit union leaders...Every member of the union’s eight-person bargaining team was laid off, it said, and in sum, 40 of the bargaining unit’s 67 people lost their jobs." #music #Bandcamp https://www.sfgate.com/tech/article/bandcamp-bargaining-union-layoffs-songtradr-18432047.php
We thank you for your continued support. ✊

Today, Epic Games’ sale of Bandcamp to Songtradr closed and at least half of Bandcamp’s staff was laid off. This is heartbreaking. We love our jobs, the platform we’ve built, and the Bandcamp community. We’re glad we have our union — coworkers who have each other’s backs. We’ll be moving together to decide our next steps. On Wednesday we return to the bargaining table with Epic Games, and we’ll keep you updated. Love and solidarity to the whole Bandcamp community. Thank you for your support.
