Check out this video from about 1:15 on, as a brass band play the leftist anthem "Bella Ciao" to drown out #ProudBoy neo-Nazis who showed up at a #NoKings rally in Atlanta yesterday. Not only is it incredibly heartening, but the band SLAPS.

ETA: A Tumblr user identified the band, "The Black Sheep Ensemble":
We may make the squeaking our ringtone
I’m trying to remember my favorite signs. Here are some I do remember:
- I’m so angry I made this sign
- Girls just wanna have FUNding for scientific research
- Stephen Miller is a turd
- Stop trying to make fascism happen [in the style of a burn book]
- Hey TACO Trump, this is NACHO community
- ICE only belongs in my horchata
- I drink my horchata warm because I hate ICE
- SOLIDARITY There are more of us than them
- I hate crowds but I’m here because I love democracy

Here is my biggest advice:
This is a network of networks, not like Twitter. It's a little harder to get started, but the results will be amazing.
First, follow people or hashtags that are at all interesting to you. Be very broad AT FIRST. Focus on people who re-post messages from other people AT FIRST.
After a while, you'll see people that you're more interested in (and people that you're less interested in). When you feel that your space is "full" --when you're seeing "enough" messages -- start to remove people who aren't as interesting.
Keep on balancing, following and removing, getting more and more close to a perfect balance for you.
It won't give you the same feed as anyone else... but that's the point.
Good luck!
Lol @ this prop 65 warning sticker on the pump at a local gas station. Also, I should probably report this...?

Dear Fedi friends,
I'm really proud to share with you a video I made: "Introducing the Fediverse: a New Era of Social Media" https://news.elenarossini.com/fediverse-video/
In this 4-minute video I explain what the #fediverse is to people not familiar with it, mentioning some of its great features and benefits (interoperability, no ads, no surveillance...) and I set it in contrast to the world of Big Tech social platforms. I argue that, with the rise of Big Tech oligarchs and the current political climate, there has never been a better time to join the fediverse.
I hope you will enjoy this video and that you will find it useful (maybe as a tool to introduce your friends, family, colleagues, school administrators, local government officials to it).
The fediverse has truly changed my life, making me a better, more empowered digital citizen. I am endlessly grateful for it, so this is my contribution to the cause ❤️
I am also incredibly thankful for the work of @samaaberg and @patel.riyen who helped me bring my vision to life with their amazing cinematography skills and their assistance throughout the process, providing brilliant feedback to the script / edits from the POV of fedi newbies.
And I was also moved by the generous help of people of the Fediverse who volunteered to translate the script into many foreign languages: @jan @fritjof @erikkemp @sknob @severin @clabru @tarcisiosurdi @hongminhee @danielcasanueva @ainali @nacly
Lastly, I'm thankful for the opportunity I had to premiere the video last week at #FediForum - thank you @j12t and @anca
The video is up on my self-hosted PeerTube instance (thank you @yunohost) and for now it is unlisted as I have no idea how my VPS will hold up. I also included an alternate location in the blog post.
I hope you'll enjoy it! It's been a real labor of love (a month of full time work on it)... I see it as my love letter to the fediverse 💌
Edit/update: THANK YOU for all the people who volunteered to have their avatar show up in the last shot. There were 750+ submissions and only 135 spots - sorry I couldn't include everyone 🥲

Self-driving cars are threats to dissidents everywhere. They are mobile surveillance platforms. They are multi-ton killing machines.
People are saying the Waymos were burnt to block roads, but it doesn't matter why. There was no debate around allowing these plausible-deniability mobiles on the road. The owners will NOT be held responsible for deaths they cause. They are a private company profiting from public infrastructure with no reasonable compensatory tax.
Just do mass transit ffs
Damn, this book is really good. Engaging throughout and a quick read. Pick it up when you can.
Incredible, funny, moving, enlightening, thought-provoking. Where can I find the album? The reader can hear the music in their head that's described in the novel. Great mix of characters to make up the band. Bonus lesson about the need for other people to help navigate the world.
