Cracking down on migrant exploitation is good. And long overdue, but still, good.
Subjecting asylum seekers to electronic monitoring or detention is all kinds of bad - offensive, inhuman, inhumane, just all around bad
In Aotearoa, just trying to get by

The child getting their braces removed has given us a day with lits of time to spare wandering around Wellington. Wellington does a much better poster scene than the Hutt Valley, especially in the Cuba St area
It seems so strange demanding that Iran negotiate to end this conflict. Iran is not the aggressor here.
Also, although I don't think Iran should develop nuclear weapons, I am aware that another middle eastern country already has nuclear weapons, which were supplied illegally by one of the permanent members of the UN Security Council. Perhaps those countries that already have nuclear weapons should be the ones disarming?
Bless you, Brian Tamaki. I see your thugs marched today against both gays and immigration.
Did you think we've been importing gays? Because parents like me have been manufacturing them locally.
I know it's been obvious for a long time now, but yet another reminder that a certain church has gone full on openly nazi

Marvel films are only good when they don't take themselves seriously. The ones that have a bit of fun are alright. The super serious films are ridiculous and actually kinda boring. In other words, I shouldn't have just wasted two hours watching that new Captain America film
@mementomaori@indg.club for those meeting certain conditions, yes, I believe so. Conditions like age, disability, chronic illness....
Luxon claiming Iran’s nuclear program and missile capability is a “threat to peace” at a time when Israel has sparked a war is absurd and endangers the safety of our country. He should walk that back, condemn Israel, cancel his visit to the NATO summit, and distance us from the western bloc immediately.
If anyone asks me about future plans or where i want to be in 5 years... Seriously? With the world in the state it's in?
@byroncclark@mastodon.social that's a brilliant movie!
Made the mistake of trying to watch the news on TV. Al Jazeera, but I don't think it matters what channel. Yes, we need to be informed about what's going on in the world. But watching all of...
....that....
...and somehow not falling into a mix of rage and despair?
South of Hamburg, in a park, I came across a small graveyard with 30 markers.
It's called the "Graveyard of Good Ideas" and is a work by artist Mark Wehrmann.
Someone added a cross for the 1.5 degrees climate limit - died 2024.
Watching the #NZPol privileges committee debate over the punishment to be handed down to te Pāti Māori MPs for a #Haka in defiance of the colonialists dishonoring te tiriti again, was one of the most shameful days in NZ parliament I have ever witnessed.
Of course it was entirely predictable to see the two cowards responsible for this appalling display of treachery, the Prime Minister Chris Luxon and his deputy the sadistic David Seymour were to ashamed to show their faces.
Hang your heads in shame.
The full unvarnished embrace of, and entrenchment and support of, systemic racism within NZ from this government is an historical and national disgrace and I hope history remembers the shocking abuses of power on display in this parliamentary term.
A little pre-caffeination ramble:
This is a good example of the perverse oytcomes you get from government by moral panic. Now watch and see what comes of the current "ban under 16s from social media!" frenzy
This was entirely foreseeable, but now people are acting all surprised.
The last paragraph:
"It's just unfathomable as a society that we can actually do this to children and use them for this purpose. There doesn't seem to be any moral justification whatsoever for treating them so badly."
This law came in under Helen Clarke's government. Look at who we have in power now. Basic humane morality was not something Helen Clarke was concerned avout when her government pushed this law change, nor is it something that troubles the current government at all.

So now that I have rescued nearly 1000 photos I had on Flickr... what do I do? Delete them from Flickr? Close my Flickr account entirely?
I grew very disillusioned with Flickr quite some time ago, and I'm finding Pixelfed (https://pixelfed.social/GrumpyDragon) to be way more fun, so maybe just delete Flickr? hmmm...
A little ramble on what I may or may not have learned these last few years working in prison reintegration...
