We are 45 staff worldwide and we run the global non-profit digital infrastructure governed by the scholarly research community (that is 22,000 organisational members from 160 countries who have registered 170 million #articles #preprints #datasets #chapters #grants). We make all kinds of research objects easier to find, cite, link, assess, and reuse - all to help put research in context.

@stuartyeates Hello! We reckon ideally you’d try to display the MathML rather than strip it out, as that’s the accurate and meaningful title. Maths publishers do spend quite a lot of effort getting it correct in Crossref metadata. We found this: https://www.data2type.de/xml-xslt-xslfo/math-ml/styles-transformations/introduction. And if you use eg LaTeX there are conversion tools such as https://github.com/davidcarlisle/web-xslt/tree/main/pmml2tex . Sorry that’s not more helpful!

Crossref sponsors are local partners helping reduce barriers to participation. In 2024 alone, we welcomed new sponsors from Bangladesh (our first GEM sponsor), China, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Türkiye. These organizations help provide local language support, manage fees in local currency, and offer tailored technical help—making membership more practical and affordable. The first
@crossref #metadata sprint concluded successfully! We spent two days in the National Museum of Natural Sciences in Madrid working on different questions, problems, challenges, and gaps in the scholarly record.
Working next to a beautiful paleontological collection made me think about Dobzhanky's words about evolution; without it, biology would be a collection of isolated observations. Why do species share traits? Why do some structures persist while others disappear? Evolution ties it all together...
Similarly, without metadata, the scholarly record would be an overwhelming sea of disconnected texts, data, and ideas... who wrote this? When was it published? How does it relate to other works? Metadata provides the context and connections that realize the #ResearchNexus.
Our program leads are working together to be more transparent, coordinate more effectively, and build helpful structures that support our goals. It's still early days, but we're committed to learning in the open. More in our latest update: https://doi.org/10.64000/4s2ee-wkr84 #programmanagement #metadatamatters #scholcomms #scholarlypublishing
