@quigs seriously. I am very concerned that we are sleeping on the impact on the workforce and families.

Non-competitive resumes and a lack of confidence tend to go hand-in-hand. Building a resume is often a catch22 but working on confidence is achievable.

The best thing is to meet working professionals and experience their workplace. Take every opportunity for informational interviews (most via Zoom!), company tours, volunteer, internships, apprenticeship. Alternatively, join Toastmasters or a networking group.

@quigs too bad the poll didn't ask what % of people ID as being disabled. It is 26% and I would guess most would assume a much lower number.

@KatyElphinstone not a parent but have worked with quite a few autistic youth - giving them opportunities to explore interests. I never know what they will latch on to, and if they find something, it can be a real delight.

Labor Force Participation
People with disabilities: 24%
People without disabilities: 68%

These are people with disabilities many of which could work if given the opportunity. Opportunity is not only a lack of artificial barriers (discrimination) but the developmental opportunities - training, encouragement, apprenticeships, interneships, on-the-job training, career exploration etc.

CTP was founded in 1974 by Scott Luebking (1951-2009) and Neil Jacobson in partnership with IBM and the California Department of Rehabilitation. CTP began as a COBOL/JCL training program for clients of the Berkeley Center for Independent Living (CIL) and was known as the “CIL Computer Training Program.” In 1982 the Computer Technologies Program evolved into an independent program serving the broader disability community.
