@barefootrambling

Vibe coding (or vibecoding) is an approach to producing software by depending on artificial intelligence (AI), where a person describes a problem in a few sentences as a prompt to a large language model (LLM) tuned for coding. The LLM generates software based on the description, shifting the programmer's role from manual coding to guiding, testing, and refining the AI-generated source code.

@barefootrambling I've found the same. My guess, based on context, is explaining the "vibe" of your objective to an AI and having it code for you. As opposed to explaining technical details to the AI.

@pathfinder Exactly.

Otherwise, the negative self talk creeps in.

"Don't be such a wimp."
"You're too sensitive."
"You're making a big deal out of nothing."
"Just do it. You don't have a choice. Everybody else can do it, why can't you?"

@mrmoresco Thank you!

I don't mind vaccine needles. I find blood draws overwhelming and stressful, but I can do them if I have time to prepare myself for it and have scheduled time afterward to calm myself back down.

IVs are a totally different story. I'm certain I could manage if, like blood draws, I had time to prepare and time to calm down after.

A surprise IV on a day that's already overwhelming me was definitely not happening though.

So fucking overwhelmed and stressed today.

But also really proud of myself for identifying my feelings and communicating then in a stressful moment.

I had to do a stress echocardiogram test today. The technician explained the procedure at the beginning, but I was already feeling overwhelmed from dealing with a stressful situation right before the appointment so I didn't catch everything she said.

All of a sudden she's like "okay we're going to put in the IV now" and my brain went NOPE YOU'RE NOT

Getting blood drawn is incredibly stressful for me. I need time to emotionally prepare and time to recover afterward. The last time I had an IV put in, I almost blacked out.

There was no way I could deal with a surprise IV given all the other stimulation of the day.

So I spoke up. I spoke up without feeling guilty or ashamed or like my feelings were invalid. I told them I didn't think I could handle the IV right now. I asked if there was any way to do it without the IV. They said they could but the ultrasound might not be as clear.

So I did it without the IV.

I feel proud of myself for speaking up, for trusting my feelings, and for communicating them quickly. I've spent my whole life powering through stressful and overwhelming situations, believing I had no choice. But I have a choice.

@hellomiakoda Short for "bootstrap", which I believe comes from the idiom "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" meaning to achieve success or overcome challenges independently.

@searls I've been playing with Copilot Agent (and Claude Code) for a week or so.

Personally I don't see a need to slow down the agent itself, but I definitely agree our usage of it should be slower.

I've found the best results using Agent mode in Copilot, but breaking down the task into smaller steps and asking it for proposals before telling it to go ahead and implement a solution.

Where I've landed is kind of a two-phase approach: first, we discuss the task at hand and come up with possible solutions. I'll poke holes in its suggestions and guide it towards what I'm really looking for. Then I ask it to go ahead and make those changes.

It doesn't matter to me how fast it makes the changes, but the planning phase needs to be slower and taken step-by-step so I can better understand what it's proposing before it executes.

I don't have the GitHub Actions Agent but I do have the one for Claude. I've only used it on one task though and it did a reasonably good job.

What I like about Claude Code over Copilot Agent is that it generates the Todo list that you suggested in your post. Claude will tell you what Todo items it has identified, then checks them off as it's working, so you can see how it planned to break down the task and what it did in retrospect.

I would encourage you to experiment with how much work gets enough done to keep the momentum going, while having some energy leftover for when you’re done. So that you’re not constantly working at your max.

@hosford42

I like a wide range of music, but I don't know if there's a specific style or theme they all share.

I'm with you on the noise thing. I think, at the very least, it has to be rhythmic or melodic. There's certain genres that mostly just sound like noise that I can't wrap my head around.

Some of the most comforting music to me is rhythmic EDM. It's what I listen to most often - to focus, to sleep, as generic background noise at any time really.

Whew! Intense volleyball games tonight. We lost both matches but they were hard fought and close games. Not bad for a team in which most folks have never met.

My legs are already feeling particularly stiff and sore... time for a hot bath with Epsom salts then bed for me.

Spent some more time experimenting with AI coding tools today.

Got Claude Code set up fairly easily and had it building out some new features for me. The feature ended up getting a bit complicated, but both Claude Code and Copilot Agent gave me solid solutions implemented reasonably cleanly.

I also took Claude's GitHub Action for a spin, which blew my mind. With the action hooked up, I created an issue in GitHub and described a full new feature I needed implemented - a few new API endpoints - and tagged Claude.

5 minutes later it had a PR for me with a summary of what it did. That task probably would've taken me at least half a day.

I have mixed feelings about AI, but I'm not sure it's going anywhere any time soon, and I fear my job prospects will be few if I don't keep up.
