I’m a ML Engineer turned Data Engineer living in Germany. My academic background is in geometric deep learning.

I’m interested in everything science and in philosophy, mental models, mindfulness, online privacy, techno-authoritarianism, and more.

I like learning new skills and improving old ones (examples: languages, piano, 3D graphics, chess, Neovim).

Joe Rogan accepting and spreading rich-people-propaganda and conspiracy theories like he’s a naive fool or intentionally/knowingly spreading harmful misinformation.

The fact that he invited Andreessen, a known fascist and all-in-all disgusting person, suggests the latter.

It’s not a big leap after billionaires openly bought politics (Thiel implanted the Vice President and Musk bought the election) and everyone ought to know there’s no such thing as a decent billionaire.

And you're gonna say I'm wrong because it doesn't "feel right" to you; but I been studying fascists for literally half my life and if you take nothing else from what I shared with you about it, let it be this:

Nazis aren't like you, they don't have full and healthy interior lives, they don't crave love and companionship. They crave power over others. And because they got nothing else going, they LITERALLY spend all their time, every day, plotting how to get you "NPCs" to give that power to them

I wish folks would take my word for it when I say "these people don't think like you do, and they don't do things for the reasons you do."

No fascist bigot PoS cares if YOU agree with them; they are fully aware that many people find their views odious. They literally arguing with you about it for the purpose of creating space for their odious ideas and find other shitlords to work with. Ultimately they intend to shoot ppl who won't EVER agree; but first they need to create space for those ideas

New from 404 Media: Yancey Spruill, who at time was Digital Ocean's CEO, told staff in all-hands meeting his former mentor was a member of the KKK, which he said shows how employees can work together despite holding different values. We got recordings 404media.co/ceo-attempted-to-n

Yeah, ”think for yourself“.

Don’t trust the experts who warn you about capitalism and the consequences of our irresponsible behavior, and dare to criticize our AI overlords. They only want to instill fear in you!

”Think for yourself“ by heeding the advice of some guy still on the Nazi platform to reject science and logic. And by swallowing whatever the messengers of the AI overlords deliver. And by swallowing against all evidence that climate catastrophe basically has zero chance of threat.

“Nice people made the best Nazis. My mom grew up next to them. They got along, refused to make waves, looked the other way when things got ugly and focused on happier things than “politics.” They were lovely people who turned their heads as their neighbors were dragged away. You know who weren’t nice people? Resisters.”

Trump, Musk, etc., are the natural result of a system based on conflating money with success. If you don’t like the fucking gods, maybe stop practicing the fucking religion.

“The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerated the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism: ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.”

As I was explaining in some replies:

Americans, even powerful Americans in politics, used to know what fascism was and what it looked like.

Then the war ended and in order to advance American global hegemony, capitalist dominance, and The Cold War, it became necessary to teach Americans that fascism was "funny moustache and Huge Boss uniforms" because if they knew what it looked like, they might start to recognize it everywhere in the burgeoning empire they were being told to support.

The correct response, the ONLY correct response is fascists get nothing. Not respect, not debate, not companionship, not an argument, not community, not safety, not kindness, nothing. It would be best if you gave them a taste of your boot, but I understand that's not always possible every time. What you cannot do, what you mustn't do, is create the impression that their arguments are up for discussion. Nothing is stopping you from shouting them down, calling them nazis, booing them out the room.

David Culley boosted:

They are literally counting on you to see them as normal and worthy of human respect, their behavior as "politics," their style of "debate" as genuine. They don't care about convincing you, what they're trying to do is create space for their methods to function. You cannot "win" by participating in EXACTLY what they want you to do. Don't take my word for it, Goebbels himself said this shit once the Nazis took over. They use your rational "liberalism" as a weapon against you; on purpose.

Man, I'm trying not to be mad; in fact I'm mostly just disappointing because it really does seem like some of y'all are just looking for a reason to talk with/argue with fascists even though I'm telling you that I've spent half my life studying fascism and opposing fascists and that simply does not work.

I dunno what to do with that. From out here it seems like your primary goal is winning arguments against fascists and I know that is impossible and just legitimates them which is BAD.

#ClimateDiary An Eastbourne friend just told us about how he went to hear Simon Reeve at the Congress theatre on Friday. He showed us this image he had taken from Reeve’s talk: “this amount of ice melts every HOUR. You could hear a pin drop in the audience. When you see it like that it really brings it home.”

Well done Simon Reeve for talking about climate change in the Eastbourne Congress theatre (not a climate activist crowd, more the opposite) - and for using an image that works.

An image (from a Simon Reeves talk in Eastbourne): a block of ice next to the Eiffel tower showing its size; ie its a cube of ice almost as tall as the Eiffel Tower" that melts every hour.

@aral I remember when @parismarx did his #worstpersonintech poll at the end of 2022, and of course Elon Musk won. But entirely for the wrong reason.

People had been addicted to Twitter, some for 15 years. And Musk ruined Twitter for them, so they disliked him.

Like a child screaming and kicking at its parents after they take its favorite toy away.

They didn’t understand that Musk is a fascist who did exactly what he intended to do, rather than ruining Twitter as a side-effect of incompetence.
