Wow! Scientists have observed a single-cell alga evolve in real time into a multicellular organism. The transition took around a year and was caused by the introduction of a predator into the environment. nature.com/articles/s41598-019

"Variables associated with COVID-19 infection
Only smoking was associated with a decreased risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection (OR 0.491; 95% CI 0.275–0.878; p = 0.017). No other factors, neither demographic, clinical, disability, comorbidity, nor treatment was associated with the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection"

"In the largest US study to date on smoking and COVID-19, current and former smoking showed lower risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection than never-smoking, while a history of smoking was associated with higher risk of severe COVID-19."

"Current smoking was associated with lower adjusted rates of SARS-CoV-2 infection (aHR=0.64 95%CI:0.61-0.67)…”

"Bromhexine is an effective, non-invasive, and affordable agent with a low side-effect profile to prevent symptomatic COVID-19. Early use of bromhexine potentially provides another layer of protection and hence it can play a prominent role in ending the pandemic especially given the emergence of new variants and the vaccination challenges faced by developing countries."

"According to the data analysis from recent studies in the past 20 years, nicotine exerts much more anti-inflammatory effects..."

Tried other reference managers, some where bad some where nice but impractical, some stubbornly refused to have anything in common with The Library of Alexandra.
Now I have all my references in Paperpile which runs in Chrome and can be tweaked at the right spot, as well as on Android and iOS (no tweaks on mobile but still), and hope to settle with it (but who knows!)

Then came Bookends on the iPad which was exceedingly good and quick and smooth for my taste but iOs only, so I decided to do everything on the iPad in markdown and use pandoc to produce the final manuscript, because UTM gave me pandoc in Debian on the iPad, but it stopped working on my tablet.
Had to use pandoc on another machine (I finalized one manuscript on my Android phone!) but I wanted something I could run on every platform even when I'm on the go, mobile only.

Reference managers: I used Mendeley for a while then thought how many papers from «The Library of Alexandra» I was openly showing to Elsevier without thinking of the possible dire consequences so I'm a moment of fear and loathing quit that and cancelled all traces.
Then tried hard to like Zotero but we never really clicked, and my Word still complains after all this time of a Zotero extension which I never really could uninstall. ->

The effect of laboratory-verified smoking on SARS-CoV-2 infection: results from the Troina sero-epidemiological survey.

"This study found a lower proportion of positive SARS-CoV-2 serology among current smokers, using direct laboratory measures of tobacco exposure and thus avoiding possible bias associated with self-reported smoking status."
