The Windrush Compensation Scheme denied compensation to 2/3 of applicants, but those who appealed with legal advice/support received much larger settlements.

The Govt. may now claim the scheme is being differently managed, but you can see why the Tories didn't want applicants to get legal aid...

As with the Post Office scandal/criminal actions, its yet more evidence of how state institutions callously chew up normal folk.

@sellathechemist One weird thing that’s happening to me that may be Musk-related is occasional deluges of automated messages on email from various help-desks that I haven’t contacted. The timing suggest they are probably from US and I suspect a disgruntled Musk fan. So far they are no more than a minor irritation, but let me know if you get anything similar

over on Bluesky some people are giving grief to those who promoted this article but I reckon that the blame lies squarely with the journal editor who accepted it. We tell lay people they should look for peer-reviewed papers. This, apparently, was peer-reviewed. 🤨
