@andreklein Great write-up! I'm not a developer, but 2025 has been the YotLD for me, too, and my experience has been pretty similar. So even for non-devs out there, the year of the Linux desktop could be close at hand.
Gen X nerd trying to drag himself through existence.
Rated PG-13 for 🤏 language.

Bought a new laptop this year, met the Windows 11 setup screen, and immediately said 'lol no.'
Installed CachyOS, never looked back.
One year in: modern Linux is polished, fast, and weirdly addictive. 🖥️

ask your doctor if lying down in the forest to be consumed by the earth is right for you
@krutonium If you haven't tried it already, Yakuake has been my drop down terminal for a long time and it works pretty great.

Thank god we have competent and educated people with a real concern for the safety of the population in charge of health here in the US.

Dear god why would anyone enable this? You can call me paranoid or whatever, but the fact that this functionality exists even in a disabled state would cause me to run for the hills if I hadn't already.
I realize that I'm still just screaming into the void on Mastodon, but I don't feel gross about doing it here, so that's a plus.
@fesshole I'd rather show someone the notes from my last therapy session. They'd be much easier to explain than my last.fm history.
I bet my high school English teacher feels pretty silly about getting onto me for using Cliff's Notes for my paper on The Canterbury Tales now.
Who knew that if you buy decent ginger ale it actually has ginger in it and makes your stomach feel like you don't hate it?
🙏 Please take down MS Teams tomorrow between 6:30am and 3:30pm UTC+1, preferably forever though
Been trying out the new digg for a few days and, while it's not bad, I'm not really sure what makes it different than reddit. I read the spill, but I don't see the difference. The vibe is very similar. Seems like the same kind of stuff floats up to the top, too. The fact that the only way to sign in is to get a code emailed to you every time is pretty annoying. Otherwise it's... fine. Bordering on meh. But fine, I guess.
Whatever entity is taking all these services down today, do you take requests? :neofox_pleading:
@lowqualityfacts So where on the dumbness spectrum do 'people who go online and act like a dick to strangers to make themselves feel like they matter' fall? Are they more dumb than people who need to "feel smart at pictures"? Less? About the same? I'm plotting this on a graph, so please be specific.
