I need your help. My editor asked me to think about a book cover for my non-fiction book: The Infrastructure Book (#TIB), where we learn about 7 infrastructure systems through 16 cities.

What are some of your favorite book covers? What styles do you recommend?

So this happened 👇. I'm so thrilled about this book deal with Prometheus which published amazing authors, including Isaac Asimov!

The first draft is ready, but it will require a whole more work before it comes out in spring 2025.

I will post about the process along the way.

What an amazingly productive few days in Shanghai working on the #UNEP GEO-7 report! I’ve never been so exhausted and energized at the same time.

While I am not a big fan of #LEOsatellites and satellite Internet constellations, I must acknowledge that they have become part of the infrastructure ecosystem. Scroll down on sybilderrible.com/ to learn more and watch a video of a rocket launch during a visit to FL.

A family holiday inspired me to write a new short story (5 min read): scroll down on sybilderrible.com/writings.htm

I wish I had more time for fiction writing. It's a lot of fun.

Earlier this week, I rode the tiny, quirky, cute Fenelon Place Elevator in Dubuque, IA. I love the reason why it was built in the first place... scroll down on sybilderrible.com/.

Conventional #publictransport models are outdated and bound to fail.... but with some transformations, the future of #transit is bright.

Here's a nice (and obvious) start from Quebec to serve low-density areas.

#Infrastructure systems are interrelated. When we are home consuming #electricity, we are not on #roads generating traffic.

Policies that affect one infrastructure affect all infrastructures.

WE MUST TAKE THESE INTERRELATIONSHIPS INTO ACCOUNT!!!

#GREATNEWSALERT: I have received the 2023 #ASCE Walter L. Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize: asce.org/career-growth/awards-

I am super stoked.

From #Wikipedia, the prize is "the highest level mid-career research award in all areas of civil engineering.": en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_L

For ChatGPT users, ask the algorithm what the award is 😀 .

#Nature will launch a new journal in 2024: Nature Cities, and is hiring a full-time editor (e.g., post-doc in urban engineering).

The Chief Editor contacted me if I had anyone to recommend. Let me know if you would like an introduction.

I reviewed the book "Sustainable infrastructure for cities and societies" by Michael Neuman for the Journal of #UrbanAffairs.

My main takeaway: everyone should read and re-read at least Part 1.

I’d been hearing about the coal-mine protests in Germany, but this photo by Sean Gallup is the first that gave me a real sense of the titanic size of the thing and what’s being protested. Just… unreal.

An aerial view of the Tagebau Hambach coal mine in Germany, and the equipment used to carve into the earth. The Excavator 288, a mobile mining rig, is gargantuan, approximately a hundred meters tall and 200 meters long. The mine itself is kilometers long and wide. The floor of the mine is below the undisturbed ground level by more than half the rig’s height. Outside the mine is a green plain of former farmland, and inside the mine is a dusty plain of exposed dirt. It is truly difficult to convey the scale of the scene in words.
