Very happy to have been part of the @ec_euclid discovery of a jaw-droppingly beautiful gravitational lens in our cosmic back yard. Here's an explainer video (with subtitles for accessibility) that I made for the @OpenUniversity and I'll post a few more links in this thread #astrodon

Beautiful gravitational lens in our cosmic doorstep discovered by the @ec_euclid consortium. In the future, Euclid's spectroscopy will give us new windows into these warps in space and time. ESA press release: esa.int/Science_Exploration/Sp #astrodon

Our ELSA meeting conference, after a few days playing with Euclid @ec_euclid spectroscopy. We're enjoying the cognitive dissonance of being in a 18th century building working on a 21st century space telescope #astrodon

We can't wait to see everyone at #AAS245!

Next week is the 245th meeting of the American Astronomical Society โ€” the largest gathering of astronomers in the US. We're gearing up for some exciting talks and sessions that'll preview the incredible science coming later this year once Rubin comes online!

At #AAS245 you will find the special session "241 - The Euclid Mission: First Results and Opportunities for Archival Research" on Tuesday, January 14, 2:00-3:30 PM, in National Harbor 10.

Five presentations on the current state of Euclid and it's upcoming first science data release.

Goldney House picture from bristol.ac.uk/venues/meetings/ - the room we're in is slightly smaller than this one, but still beautiful

Goldney House Mahogany Parlour, with a beautiful long dining table, a magnificent fireplace, an elegant ceiling, wood panelling on the walls, and a lavish carpet.

Our annual ELSA meeting has kicked off! Beautiful location in Bristol Universityโ€™s Goldney House, which looks like itโ€™s straight out of Downtown Abbey @ec_euclid

A common theme of many of the excellent talks at the @ec_euclid UK meeting today at the beautiful @royalastrosoc has been application of machine learning technologies: cGANs, Bayesian CNNs etc. Also many examples where human input via citizen science is crucial to the ML workflows for truth sets #astrodon (Pics courtesy of Euclid UK)

New artwork inspired by the quest to discover new gravitational lenses in space by using Euclid telescope's data, machine learning, and the hivemind of a thousand volunteers.

Fun fact this was mainly created by using non-euclidean fractal geometry!

Would you like to spot warps in space and time? The @ec_euclid #Euclid space telescope consortium needs your help! With this help from you, ELSA will unpick what's going on in newly-discovered magnified background galaxies with Euclid's spectroscopy. To have a go, visit zooniverse.org/projects/apraji . To see more about why we're doing this, see this thread by @stephenserjeant mas.to/@stephenserjeant/113554 #astrodon

A corollary is that our avalanche of ~100000 gravitational lenses from #Euclid @ec_euclid currently needs people to eyeball a million candidates! This is why citizen science is crucial to making a success of one of the Euclid space telescope's major legacy science areas #astrodon zooniverse.org/projects/apraji
