Singular iphone design flaw: having the plug at the bottom! (no one ever forgets to plug in their phone, and no one ever needs to use it right after plugging it in, so why not have it at the bottom? No one will be fumbling with the cord. And the magnetic charger? No one will need to use it while it is charging so we can make the cord really effing short.)

If you are okay with having Muslim, Jewish and Hindu students sit through a Christian prayer in public schools, and not okay with having Christian students sit through a Muslim, Jewish or Hindu prayer, then it’s NOT religious freedom - it’s religious oppression.

The Aventine Keyhole is a keyhole at the Villa del Priorato di Malta, in Rome, which was granted extraterritorial status by Italy in 1869. When you peek through the keyhole, you actually have 3 countries in your line of sight: Malta, Italy and the Vatican City [2559x3712]

This baby huntsman spider was fascinated with my first pink eraser prints, and stayed for hours. The next day I decided to ease him out of his reverie (he was staring in the direction of the bee) with a high five to the leg he was holding up. (I went extremely slowly with my finger tip until it touched the tip of his leg.) He pulled the leg back momentarily but didn’t seem bothered. I then then moved my finger forward again, but this time stopped short just underneath his leg to see if he would tap me back, and he did. Made my day. I decided to put him on a flower outside as a thank you. He was hesitant at first to leave the paper, but when I found the right flower, he scrambled on. #pinkeraserart #insectencounters #spider #linocut

Blue Eyed Grass is a native North American plant, but it's not really a grass. It's a member of the iris family. Here's some of mine, blooming now in #Massachusetts. #NativePlants #Gardening #FairhavenMa

Thin, green, grass-like foliage with small purple flowers having six petals and yellow centers.

My daughter, who has had a degree in computer science for 25 years, posted this observation about ChatGPT on Facebook. It's the best description I've seen:

Something that seems fundamental to me about ChatGPT, which gets lost over and over again:
When you enter text into it, you're asking "What would a response to this sound like?"
If you put in a scientific question, and it comes back with a response citing a non-existent paper with a plausible title, using a real journal name and an author name who's written things related to your question, it's not being tricky or telling lies or doing anything at all surprising! This is what a response to that question would sound like! It did the thing!
But people keep wanting the "say something that sounds like an answer" machine to be doing something else, and believing it *is* doing something else.
It's good at generating things that sound like responses to being told it was wrong, so people think that it's engaging in introspection or looking up more information or something, but it's not, it's only, ever, saying something that sounds like the next bit of the conversation.

Make nothing you do today a low effort, time saving move, just for convenience. Do something hard—like it matters. It matters. Listen to the earth. You can change the outcome. Fight “easier”, ditch the programming.

@DrPsyBuffy One of the only things that keeps me from crossing over to “what is the effing point?” is stepping into my garden to quietly absorb our alien friends manage their daily fear/joy yin/yang just to cross a meadow….a fragile world trapped within a death machine world…and then I put on my gloves (and imaginary cape) to rescue what belongs from what destroys.

2023-04-01

@DrPsyBuffy you have nailed it, utterly
