Pleased to share the latest preprint from the Martin lab @evolvwing. We investigated continuous colour variation in Colias butterflies, and found that few large effect loci explain a large portion of the variation #colsci 1/
@marcrr I am pipe-dreaming a version of this applied to communities of plant-specialized insects.
Cool concept by Fukushima & Pollock: measure selective convergent evolution by contrasting convergence (instead of rates) at non synonymous vs synonymous levels. #MolecularEvolution #NaturalSelection

A tad late for #InverteFest, but I submitted a set of my arthropod Lego designs to @LEGOIdeas!
My set idea "Arthropod Model Organisms" features models for a fruit fly, amphipod crustacean, red flour beetle, and two-spotted cricket.

For #FossilFriday check out this gorgeous #fossil #insect! This 49 million year old beauty is Pulchritudo attenboroughi, a #beetle found in the rocks of the Green River Formation, Colorado. what's particularly striking about this fossil is the pattern on its wing cases.

Do you know a developmental or stem cell biology post-doc looking to apply for their first independent academic position in 2023?
Then let them know about @Dev_journal Pathway to Independence Programme:
We've published a lot in eLife in the past. We have found it to be a great venue for many papers.
Now that people have had a month to think about the major changes in eLife's publishing model, I'm curious about how you're thinking about it now.
Do you expect to submit there in future, and if so, what types of papers will you send there?
