I've seen a few people ask what happens if the instance you are on closes down.
Tradition on Mastodon is that all the people on that instance are buried alive with the admin in a giant pyramid made of old phones and laptops. 😵

@ieure Yep, nothing beats the real thing.
@ieure There was a tool called Spectacle that improved on this behavior a lot. Unfortunately it stopped getting updates a while back :(
Anyone have an instance they recommend? My home one is winding down and going offline next year :(
Tubular v2.2 is out! This release adds around 8,000 CRT datasheets, which are linked from the individual tube pages. And I've released the source under the AGPL 3.0: https://codeberg.org/ieure/tubular
Main site is still at https://tubular.atomized.org
@ieure zoneminder?
Another entry for "old computer books with cool cover art". Auf Digitalen Pfaden, Eckert et al. (1991)

@ieure I've had a few Fisher sets like that. Nothing amazing, but not garbage either. They totally fit the bill for tunes in the shop.
Arguments for the purchase of printing terminals over CRT... Reminds me of when a storage vendor tried to sell me on a tape backup system a couple years back. #retrocomputing #crt #terminal #printingterminal #dec #ls120
I had to pay dearly for it, but it's one of those things you buy when one's for sale because it might be the only one for some time. Set of tech manuals and bulletins for my DECwriter III. #retrocomputing #dec #digital #printingterminal #terminal #1970s #microcomputer
Snagged this fun little relic yesterday. Dual media floppy disk orrrr memory stick! Has a surprisingly decent zoom lens with stabilization. Thing cost almost a grand new, but twenty years later $13 took it home from the thrift store. #sony #mavica #retrotech #camera #mvc-fd97
Rolling straight from Body Count's "Smoked Pork" skit into Miles Davis is a hell of a shuffle transition.
Look at this beautiful thing! #1985 #Sony #CD player. Top loader design! That fantastic text across the lid! The viewing window! The light up logo when it's powered! Exquisite. #vintageelectronics #vintage #1980s
It's really easy to feel like you're alone in a basement in front of a computer all day when you work remotely. So I like to let people know that I'm around (or not) as a way of connecting with folks.
I started doing this at my last job, where we had a partially-remote team. And I'd notice when someone said good morning in person, but the chat was dead.
So I thought I'd start saying hello in chat as well, and I've kept up the habit for like 10 years now.
@ieure I'm awful about doing this but I have a few co-workers who do it and I appreciate it a lot for exactly the reasons you mention. I think I need to make a more conscious effort to get in the habit, cause it really does make a difference.
I just noticed "foreach" on npm is controlled by a single maintainer.
I also noticed they let their personal email domain expire, so I bought it before someone else did.
I now control "foreach" on NPM, and the 36826 projects that depend on it.
@ieure That's the one I have at the office. Hasn't been a public location for a while now, unfortunately.
