I make light up clothing for all kinds of rock stars, including engineers! I had the pleasure of attending a 50th anniversary celebration for Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI) hosted by founder Ashraf Habibullah who has worn many custom Enlighted jackets over the years.
In my "past life" as an aerospace engineer, I worked on translators to convert projects between different finite element analysis software packages, including CSI, so it's been fun to have things come full circle.

@buddhawilliams yes, lots of weird optical illusions can happen when you fill in a surface with animated lights

@T_X It's important to use stranded wires and not solid-core, which would be more vulnerable to fatigue damage. Mounting things on non-stretch fabric and allowing enough slack for body movement also helps.

@jacket these pieces are spot clean only. For lighted garments that need to be laundered, I use a variety of methods to make detachable washable and non-washable parts (like zip-out linings)

I made a few pieces of lighted clothing for Boop! The Musical, now showing on Broadway. This robe and jacket (with nearly 4000 RGB LED pixels!) are used to illustrate a magical transition from Betty Boop's black and white cartoon world to the full color real world.

This was such a massively great and fascinating interview with @flashingjanet - it was awesome to hear about the multitude of technical challenges involved in making high profile wearable LED costumery and to hear about what she had to do 20 yrs ago before WS2812s were invented. 🤯

The Mirror Mirror exhibit is now open at the San Diego International Airport. The theme is inspired by the 1960s Southern California Light & Space movement, and features 16 regional contemporary artists. My pieces are in an alcove in Terminal 2 East (pre-security), down the hallway just east of the baggage claim area on the ground floor.
