@fj So they're admitting that mass surveillance is incompatible with democracy (good, we need written confessions). They are also saying they don't want to do mass surveillance inside the USA, and so only the USA deserves democracy. Am I reading this correctly?

@kyleford I'm pretty sure this is what @pluralistic was talking about when he used the term Reverse Centaur. Now I'm picturing a world where people accomplish random inscrutable tasks in the real world dictated by AI slop bots and they have no way of knowing what they just did. Isn't this part of the plot of the Severance TV show? Please, don't create the Torment Nexus

@mahadevank @remixtures The platforms won't learn to put creators first because they have no economic or regulatory incentives to do so. If a platform abuses users and business customers it's because it can. And it will always work to create ways to make sure they will keep being rewarded for that abuse. It's #enshittification

@niccolove Maybe check out @slimbook
I've never used their hardware but I think it's worth looking into. They're based in Valencia

@vkc On my atomic fedora, I use a Debian container in distrobox and install the official .deb but I have trouble with the share screen feature during calls.

@rapscalorie @nyhan @mk30 @pluralistic CalyxOS is having a few issues right now, hope they sort it out. I've been using #GrapheneOS for a year now and am happy with it. The installation was very smooth! Some banking apps don't work but it's their fault not Graphene's. If people are interested I recommend checking out @josh YouTube videos. Overall I am very happy with my experience and I try to use privacy-respecting free open source apps as much as possible. Go check out @GrapheneOS

@vkc Before I started learning how to code and using the terminal I usually felt like I had to do what the computer wanted. I still don't use the terminal very often but I feel I now have enough practice and know-how to use it or learn more if I need to. I'll never forget the feeling of autonomy and wonder the first few times I typed a command and the computer simply gave the output I was expecting, it felt like magic!
I like your videos about terminal tools

@vkc I'm sorry you have to go through this. I watched the video and really like it. I feel a bit silly for not realizing FedoraMediaWriter can also be used for other distro's ISOs. Thanks for teaching me that! Looking forward to more awesome videos!

#Introduction
Hi! I've been on mastodon since summer 2023, but this is my brand new account. I'm interested in #FreeOpenSource #privacy respecting software, #OpenAccess science, and overall community driven spaces. I study #physics, I'm a beginner-level programmer, and would like to start contributing to some #foss #floss projects or sharing my own code. I thought I'd join floss.social to be in a community of like-minded people. I also like #flowers. That's all for now. Have a nice day!
