Off to Calabria for some fieldwork and meetings with our @cnrsocial_ partners, as part of our @royalsociety co-funded project. Looking forward to visiting nice landscapes and discussing the use of digital tools in heritage protection.
Check out our latest paper on the early medieval site of Busa delle Vette (Dolomites), published in the last issue of Preistoria Alpina. Residue analysis showed that some of the cooking pots found at the site were used to prepare millet porridge! Markers of red fruits have also been found.

I spent three beautiful days in Pisa for the Winter School of R, talking to students and colleagues about spatial analysis and the advantage of using #rstat #rspatial for #ReproducibleResearch. I hope that showing the benefits of #coding for #spatial #archaeology will promote these methods and tools among a new generation of colleagues!
The Newcastle University Spatial Humanities (NUSH) seminars are back! Tuesday 24 October, at 1700 BST (UK time) @nicky_garland will talk about "Data Reuse, digital literacy and the ADS". The seminar is in person (Armstrong Building Room 2.50) and on Zoom (ID: 862 3637 9565)!
Paper alert! π£ We investigated the content of potsherds from an Early Medieval site at 1800 m in the Dolomites (Italy). Archaeological evidence and potsherd analysis suggest that this was not a simple pastoral hut...

This year's campaign of the ALPES project has come to an end. We continued the excavation of a prehistoric enclosure in the Alps (2230 m of elevation), dismantling the dry stone wall to see what emerged underneath! Data analysis will tell more!
Our excavation at the Neolithic site of Ripari Alti in Val di Lamen (Dolomites, Italy) is coming to an end. I am grateful to colleagues and students from the University of Naples Federico II for their work and the Dolomiti Park for funding and support.
Heading to Calabria for the first meeting of our collaborative project with CNR co-founded by @royalsociety. We will combine remote sensing and HLC for the protection of heritage at risk. π»ποΈ
