Check out our latest paper on the early medieval site of Busa delle Vette (Dolomites), published in the last issue of Preistoria Alpina. Residue analysis showed that some of the cooking pots found at the site were used to prepare millet porridge! Markers of red fruits have also been found.

I spent three beautiful days in Pisa for the Winter School of R, talking to students and colleagues about spatial analysis and the advantage of using #rstat #rspatial for #ReproducibleResearch. I hope that showing the benefits of #coding for #spatial #archaeology will promote these methods and tools among a new generation of colleagues!

Paper alert! πŸ“£ We investigated the content of potsherds from an Early Medieval site at 1800 m in the Dolomites (Italy). Archaeological evidence and potsherd analysis suggest that this was not a simple pastoral hut...

This year's campaign of the ALPES project has come to an end. We continued the excavation of a prehistoric enclosure in the Alps (2230 m of elevation), dismantling the dry stone wall to see what emerged underneath! Data analysis will tell more!

It's not every day that you get to draw a spatial data wizard for the cover of a book written by real-life spatial data wizards that can help us all become spatial data wizards! πŸ’›πŸŽ¨πŸ§™β€β™‚οΈπŸ—ΊοΈ

Thank you CRC Press, @rsbivand & @edzer for the opportunity & great new book!

Allison holding the book "Spatial Data Science With Applications in R" from CRC Press by Edzer Pebesma and Roger Bivand in the foreground. On the cover of a book is an illustrated wildland wizard (a la Radagast) holding a staff while controlling a number of spatial data pieces (raster layers, polygons, projections) in the air.
