I find it weird how the notion that '#mastodon is too confusing for people to join' persists in the media, even among tech sites. Sure, #threads makes it dead easy if you already have an #instagram profile, but I cannot figure out how the masto sign-up process flummoxes otherwise smart folks so thoroughly. I *am* getting old though, so maybe this is just some 'proto-get off my lawn' attitude starting to sink in.

Guys... we all *knew* what was gonna happen. We all knew some rich dudes with a God complex were gonna try to hijack a potentially good idea as the #fediverse and make it their for-profit inflatable doll. And we knew that people would join in the thousands because "that's where people are", regardless of said rich dudes questionable past actions.

If anything, #Threads on the #fediverse will allow me to follow people there WITHOUT using Meta's app. I see that as a win, so the activityPub integration can’t come soon enough.

@fabioromeu I actually didn’t think of it that way. Having the “non-AP” users who tend to stick to big social still being accessible through non-Threads apps is kind of nice.

Looking for the dislike button for fireworks

Asking as a dumb user, why doesn't a Mastodon client show replies when a post is opened? I can see them when I do one more click and open the toot "in browser" which opens it in the original instance web interface. Why can't my client do that "click" for me immediately? It happens similarly in the web interface.
Please like and subscribe..., umm no, please boost so this toot can find someone who can answer or better yet, implement this.
