@hwang @3dprinting also I think auto retract can be disabled in settings since 6.4.0-RC2.
Or even per filament type.
@hwang @3dprinting I store filament in dryboxes because I live in a humid area.
The filament auto retraction is a game changer for me. I don't have to wait for the nozzle to heat up to remove the filament back inside the box.
@bear_lab and just to add, there are some users claiming that both Creality (Marlin) and Sovol (Linux) violated GPL terms. I cannot properly fact-check this, but we should not forget this when blaming Prusa for misleading marketing. IMHO, these are totally different levels of anti-FOSS behavior.
@bear_lab cannot comment on the legal aspect of hardware copyright.
But I would imagine prusa contributed significantly more to bambu studio/orca slicer than the other way around. Full time developers assigned to a project for a decade (!) counts for something.
OCL is definitely misleading and not OSHW. But I think Prusa is still one of the biggest allies of open source 3D printing (especially soft). It's ok to push them, but we should push actively anti FOSS companies like Bambu much more.
@bear_lab from what I understand Creality didn't truly shared their latest designs. For sovol fair; but aren't those essentially Voron clones?
So to me prusa seems to be on the level of RatRig (non-commercial) + they share a lot of important slicer code.
Do you know if LDO gives back to Voron design/employ some of the engineers?
I wish Prusa could do more open source. But it seems they're still the largest open source 3D printing contributors by impact. I might be wrong ofc.
@bear_lab honest question: are there 3D printer *companies* doing a better job at open sourcing their hardware (and software)?
@michal I couldn't find a good recycling option. There are some deals where you could send scraps by post to another country and get a discount on recycled filament. But you get a quite expensive low quality filament at the end. And this is for existing customers only, so you must buy recycled filament first.
So for now scraps go to the bin.
@julia @dakkar I think sculpt and chisel should work better in blender (never managed to learn it).
In FreeCAD it's mostly sketch, extrude, rotate, intersect. Or at least in the parts design workbench. I watched some YouTube videos, that was helpful.
But to be honest I had so many difficult moments in FreeCAD that I switched to onshape at the end. It's a night and day from the usability perspective in my opinion (sadly).

Very lightweight and seems to work as expected on my system, but please kick the tyres.
@masukomi I didn't know Canon produces slick-looking 3D printers.
@lytta you can you always could. And since recently it doesn't void the warranty. https://help.prusa3d.com/article/flashing-custom-firmware-core-one-l-core-one-mk4-s-mk3-9-s-mk3-5-s_814967
I was referring more to hardware upgrades, like replacing the filament sensor for softer filaments.
That said, if you are thinking about a custom firmware probably that's not the printer you're looking for 🙂
@lytta #prusa core one(+) is alright. Not as quite polished as bambus, but DIY friendly, good quality, maintainable. It's direct drive, but the filament is normally fed through a PTFE tube, which is problematic for flexibles softer than 95A. You can absolutely feed directly, but that requires removing the top cover. And there are filament detector mods for very soft stuff because it doesn't work out of the box.
@hwang there is a "filter all materials" option, which definitely works for PLA on my core one+.
@hwang did you get a core one+? Or do they still sell the core one?

@coatless @Airbnb i think that's a good idea, but not realistic at all. A lot of countries, e.g. in Europa, require specific forms of verification by law. And there are things like tourist tax, city tickets and so on which just won't work without ID verification (and it's not the host's fault typically)
@ldottxt prusa core one (kit). It was fun to assemble, it's reliable. It is upgradable and not a walled garden.
That said, it's not an "Apple experience". You are meant to learn things on the way.
Before that I had mk4s, and to be honest unless you need an enclosure that might be even a better deal than core one.

@bjoern I tried the cheap rectangular ones. They seemed consistent. Keep in mind that the lowest they show is 10%. On the other hand my Space Pi filament dryer cannot go below 15% on the screen (even when it's below that value). A typical workflow is to dry desiccant once the value reaches 15-20%; I don't think accuracy is an issue.
