@Vivaldi I have opened mstdn.science in clean vivaldi browser and still the same effect. It is not related to my account as here I am not logged in. BTW, social.vivaldi.net works. Exactly the same is in Microsoft Edge: mstdn.science has broken all the images, social.vivaldi.net works.

My mastodon in @Vivaldi browser is not displaying any images. Do you know maybe the reason or how to fix it? In firefox it does work ok.

@hattom I was not discussing race between USA and China. I just believe that Chinese will push very hard to each Q>1 in a magnetic fusion device. I do not care for NIF as it will never be used as a power plant.

@hattom Well, I was speaking about magnetic fusion, NIF is for me a very different pair of shoes as they achieved Q>1 for power that has been transferred from the capsule to the fuel. It is a bit as you would look only at the very center of the plasma column in a tokamak. The definition of Q is rather specific for laser-driven fusion.

@hattom Why would you expect research institution to achieve Q_electr > 1 on a device, which is used for experiments? This is a task for DEMO, whoever builts its first.

I have been to Hefei a few times this century. In 2006, it was just a provincial town with two tall buildings. In 2014, it was a big city with skyscrapers stretching to the horizon. Now it is a major high-tech industrial city in China, where thermonuclear fusion is becoming a reality. #fusion

The BEST tokamak, which is similar (some say too similar) to the US SPARC/ARC concept and uses all the experience gained in the construction of ITER, will be developed on a much faster timescale than the mega-project in southern France. It has also been scaled down, but still aims to achieve Q>1, which is the ratio of the power produced by the fusion of D and T to the heating power required to bring the plasma to 100 million kelvins. #fusion

The very first nation which will achieve positive gain of fusion power will be China in the beginning of 2030s. Chinese government has very aggressive program towards that and builds new devices with a very fast pace. The tokamak BEST, which is high field magnetic fusion device, will start operating after 2027 in Hefei. #fusion

Kupiłem sobie prenumeratę „Wiedzy i Życia” oraz „Świata Nauki” za 19.99PLN co jest śmiesznie niską sumą i czytam sobie, ale niestety PDF nie mają spisu treści z odnos do odpowiednich treści w dokumencie. To naprawdę dziwne, bo przecież takie rzeczy można z automatu wrzucić tworząc dokument. Treść jest bardzo ciekawa.
