@inawhilecrocodile i am sure i checked for tamper protection multiple times, but i had some other problems that also lead to install failures that i apparently never checked this specific set again. and its annoying because as i mentioned the manual setup for creating a golden image requires the tamper protection to be off before starting and i assumed that the automatic one would just do the same 🤦

@inawhilecrocodile omfs i am terribly tired but i thought “just do one more test” and flashed a clean w11 24h2 image, installed only sophos using the automatic way, ensured that temper protection would stay off (not just turned off temporarily) and now it seems too work?!?

@inawhilecrocodile i have been using both this automatic version and the old manual version for creating the gold image and tamper protection was definitely off for the manual version (it gives a different error otherwise), though admittedly i didn’t verify it for the automatic method.

but the automatic method did work for windows 23h2 just not for 24h2, so i don’t think that that is it.

@rho i’ll try to message Sophos next week, but i have so little information to go on for now. i did open a console with shift-f10 and looked at some logs but i didn’t find anything concrete. there are some errors, but i’m seeing the same errors when i don’t have sophos installed and sysprep works

the error popup occurs after the generalise stage - generalise finishes and the system shuts down; i can grab an image, but then continuing to audit mode or oobe throws the error.

this is a long shot, but i need help:

i’m creating a custom Win 11 24H2 image that included Sophos Endpoint Protection using sysprep/dism. sophos is being installed using the ‘--goldimage’ flag.

the image installs fine until after the first restart where it fails with “windows could not finish configuring the system” and gets stuck in a boot loop.

the same setup works without issues in 23H2.

for the last few weeks i’ve been trying to capture a windows 11 24h2 image for use on our laptops, and i it has been an unbelievable pain. the windows 11 bootable usb stick doesn’t work at all (installation of custom image fails halfway through) so i have to use a windows 10 stick, but even here i am getting random “configuration” errors after installing the image and i cannot pinpoint what’s causing them.

@ShaulaEvans a friend recommended it to me a few years ago and it has been such an improvement over my old drying rack because now drying no longer blocks an entire room

@ShaulaEvans i never have to hang anything large enough that i would need to hang it over doors or furniture with the expectation of my duvet. but i usually just unceremoniously throw that over the entire tower rack or i have a another old folding drying rack i can take out of my closet if i need more space

@ShaulaEvans this is the style of drying rack i use https://www.metaltex.com/products/ciclone/. it’s relatively compact and folds away flat next to the wall when not in use.

i also wash t-shirts on the lowest spin cycle, so they’re very wet, but towels and bed linen i wash on the highest cycle so they come out pretty dry already. i have only one rack and it’s enough for my single-person household.

@ShaulaEvans i haven’t used a dryer in ~15 years, all my laundry goes from the washing machine onto a drying rack in my hallway. for space reasons i’m using a tower-style rack with multiple selves. large things like sheets i fold in the middle so that they fit on the rack.

with my flats humidity, it takes about 24-48 hours for things to dry. i do have a dehumidifier in the hallway to capture the moisture and help with the drying and prevent mold since i can’t effectively ventilate
