I'm mad about the guns issue; I'm mad about voter suppression tactics, I'm mad about people not liking the diversity of culture.

I'm turning off social media for a while. If anyone saw my last couple of postings you know I'm mad and sorry for polluting your streams.

I'll talk to y'all in while.

@brooklynmarie This is only under their (NYT) radar because they haven't reported on it because it wasn't an election cycle (which is now coming up) but these laws have been implemented slowly in states where the GOP has control.

This has been GOP actions for the last 30 years and you only have to look at what the Supreme Court did this past year in NC.

This is what pisses me off about NYT and why maybe people have become distrustful of journalists. Which sucks in of itself.

@marchuff @uspolitics But why protect a Nazi? Why say we don't know why it happened? When a cursory review of his social media shows he's a Nazi based on his support of them. Abbott has stated these mass shootings are a mental health problem why hasn't he dealt with the fact that a mentally disturbed (per the Army) person was able to purchase or keep guns?

So he acknowledged shooting happened why not really discuss that he has no law and no intention of stopping any of these shootings.

Please block trolls, folks. If we don’t, they just keep haunting decent people’s posts and messing with our momentum to get things done.

Pushing anti-democratic talking points that could have aired on RT? Telling you voting doesn’t matter, no progress happens, that both parties are the same or barely different? Just block that noise.

If anyone needs help, happy to oblige. If you can’t tell them from Tucker Carlson, there’s a reason for that.

Ursula K. Le Guin discussing her regrets about not using more gender-neutral language in her book 'The Left Hand of Darkness', the significance of pronouns, and the grammatical accuracy of the singular 'they':

"English has a truly ungendered pronoun only in the plural. He, she, and it are gendered, they is not. [...] Historically, and colloquially, they has been regularly used as an ungendered or bisexual singular."

β€œAnd here’s an example of deliberate violation of a Fake Rule: Fake Rule: The generic pronoun in English is he. Violation: β€œEach one in turn reads their piece aloud.” This is wrong, say the grammar bullies, because each one, each person is a singular noun and their is a plural pronoun. But Shakespeare used their with words such as everybody, anybody, a person, and so we all do when we’re talking. (β€œIt’s enough to drive anyone out of their senses,” said George Bernard Shaw.) The grammarians started telling us it was incorrect along in the sixteenth or seventeenth century. That was when they also declared that the pronoun he includes both sexes, as in β€œIf a person needs an abortion, he should be required to tell his parents.” My use of their is socially motivated and, if you like, politically correct: a deliberate response to the socially and politically significant banning of our genderless pronoun by language legislators enforcing the notion that the male sex is the only one that counts. I consistently break a rule I consider to be not only fake but pernicious. I know what I’m doing and why.”

@Zeb_Larson As one of those older voters (Gen-X) I've been saying the same thing for 30 years. From conservative folks I always hear, "well Dem back in the 1930s, 40s, etc., engaged in that behavior". And I'm like that doesn't mean the GOP should do it.

That means we should be and do better than the previous generations and not continue the practice. But deaf ears.

My liberal friends don't believe it will be a prob in the end. They think the wackiness of the GOP will swing things Dem.

I feel like I see a lot of older liberals talk about how voter apathy is the enemy and not gerrymandering or voter suppression. It fascinates me. Do they just not want to admit to themselves that the game is rigged? I vote in every single election, but I live in a heavily gerrymandered state that lives under one-party rule and have no illusions about how powerful my vote is.

@randahl ABC said 199 mass shootings this year on Sunday. That makes 1.6 mass shootings per day.

This feels exactly what the GOP wants. Us to be scared of everything. I think they believe it works in their favor somehow. Voter suppression works better in their favor.

Until the people finally realize the GOP doesn't care for any of them. But will we still be a democracy by then? Will everyone stop voting these mad power crazed people into office?

Best explanation I've seen of why the Paradox of Tolerance is no paradox at all.

#philosophy

The Paradox of tolerance disappears if you look at tolerance, not as a moral standard, but as a social contract.

If someone does not abide by the terms of the contract, then they are not covered by it.

In other words: The intolerant are not following the rules of the social contract of mutual tolerance.

Since they have broken the terms of the contract, they are no longer covered by the contract, and their intolerance should NOT be tolerated.
