@evan poor phrasing on my part. Yes, friendly disagreement is definitely a thing and happens from time to time. But it's not something I go looking for. The problem is more that my particular opinions are very solidified over the years and the type of person who would hold contrary opinions to mine is, almost to a one, completely unbearable and painful to deal with.

Social media has become very polarized in recent years and I'm certainly not immune to it, self-awareness aside.

2024-10-05

@evan qualified: I like my social media to be enjoyable, passive content. I'm not *actively* seeking out differing opinions because the people with opinions contrary to mine are generally not pleasant to deal with.

If I want to get into an argument I'll go to video comments on YouTube

@Captain_Jack_Sparrow technically a web client, but if you save the shortcut/"install" it on your device it's pretty much an app. And a pretty good one at that, tbh

It seems to me that once one is appealing to followers, one's identity has been subsumed into that which the community has deemed interesting, acceptable, or expedient. If everyone worked just to attract followers, the medium would become worthless. The idea of "followers" is inherently at odds with the health of as a diverse communications medium. It is likely that the most valuable content in is that which is only *barely* popular enough to be seen.

@mcc same, in a kind of amused-yet-terrified way, along the lines of "oh my God, these things are still on the road and we're all gonna die"

I wonder how many cybertruck owners watched it and went "damn I f*cked up"

2024-09-25

@mcc so I watched the whistlindiesel #cybertruck experiment. It was...educational. 🤣

@mcc re: the reddit thing

I do kinda miss it myself. I left when they killed third party apps with their absolutely bonkers API price hike

Can someone #intheloop explain to me what exactly is going on with #NeilGaiman ?

All I can find is one or two articles referencing each other and saying he is being *accused* of SA, but everywhere I look people are talking about it like it's a known/proven thing? I guess I'm just confused.

Please - and we've known this for years - never, ever include prebuilt not-secret secrets in your demo code. Make people generate their own, and show them how, but never include default secrets.

It doesn't matter what it is, what it says or does, it does not matter how you label it. If your code _works at all_ it's getting cut and pasted into production at the first sign of time pressure, and there is always time pressure.

Raw Story:
Corporate media keeps hiding the truth about madman Donald Trump

We have a complete madman running for the President of the United States, and it would be about damn time our national media started reporting it this way.

@varx @foone seems likely they'd just spoof the user agent? If they aren't already.

@defcon201 @paultx890 and Trumpers will eat it up because not a one of them has the mental throughput to figure out that maybe a guy in jail is not creating new socials

@resingm That was a fun read!

@heatsink I use Rancher to manage my K3S cluster and it has an included monitoring plugin that will install prometheus and grafana for monitoring the cluster itself - but from there it's simple enough to add your own monitors for DNS, etc

Regardless of how you go about it, Prom/Graf is a great combo.
