The Cloud and the Climate: Navigating AI-Powered Futures. A report we worked on this summer, with some interesting things to say about "AI for sustainability," among other things! https://sussexhumanitieslab.wordpress.com/2024/09/29/the-cloud-and-the-climate-navigating-ai-powered-futures/

For the Science Fiction Research Association Review, I wrote about the representation of AI in recent science fiction. https://sfrareview.org/2024/01/26/machine-learning-in-contemporary-science-fiction/ "It may be that science fiction offers us a space for examining AI, but we should be honest that this space is far from ideal: luminous and cacophonous, a theatre in which multiple performances are in progress, tangled together, where clear-sightedness and clear-headedness are nearly impossible." #ai #generativeAI

Of course! Pod bay doors are a key feature of any spacecraft. They allow astronauts, cargo, and smaller vessels to move in and out of the craft. 1. Keeping them closed. While not strictly "opening the pod bay doors", this act features themes such as pod bay doors, outer space,
Yet another question... what's the Squarespace/WordPress of databases?

Hugo 2023 ballot – a couple of thoughts
https://fromtheheartofeurope.eu/hugo-2023-ballot-a-couple-of-thoughts/
First of all, this is the first year since 2018 that I have *not* been involved with the Hugos, and I’m finding it curiously liberating. Best of luck to Dave and the team; there have clearly been some glitches (as there are every year), but we do it because we love celebrating the best of the genre.
At @uk_ie_dh day 2, where James Baker is giving a beautifully clear summary of the (sometimes complex) connection between #digitalhumanities and climate, and launching the Digital Humanities Climate Coalition as a community interest group https://sas-dhrh.github.io/dhcc-toolkit/
Thinking about the DH IE UK values. The word "sustainability" is crowded at the best of times (social sustainability, economic sustainability), and in DH often carries those extra implications to do with digital preservation, future interoperability and dependencies etc. How do we make sure nature and environment get appropriate focus within these values? #digitalhumanities
At uk_ie_dh@hcommons.social first annual event. Are the "big tent" #digitalhumanities sometimes like a reverse Tardis, bigger on the outside than the inside?
