Hi everyone, I'm currently having an extremely hard time finding reviewers for a paper at @jovi which relates to visualization, simulation, and orbital dynamics. The review version is public at journalovi.org/2024-rein-rebou and the reviews will be public and (optionally) attributed as well. Please ping me if interested, and RT for reach!

Anyone has a bit of experience with @DOAJ? We submitted @jovi for inclusion, but got a very speedy rejection because it's not publishing enough. I thought the requirement is that a journal needs to have published at least 5 peer-reviewed articles to be included, and JoVI ticks that box?

@owiecc @W_Lucht and one example journal published by Aalborg University is @jovi , the Journal of Visualization and Interaction (founded by @mjskay , @lonnibesancon , @chat and myself).

P.S. it says "student volunteers" in the post, but postdocs are also welcome to join!

Just saw someone brag about getting a paper accepted after the 10th (TENTH!) resubmission. 🤯

What an incredible waste of resources. This paper has probably collected somewhere around 35 separate reviews, no doubt with a fair bit of opposing views and change requests.

If there only was a venue which doesn't have to meet some arbitrary rejection rate and aims for continuity of reviews between revisions... 🤔

*cough* @jovi *cough* 😉

I am - once again - pretty pissed right now by the journal reviewing process, having ultimately been dealt a rejection after going through major revisions.

There seems to be an unspoken assumption among editors and reviewers that _any_ requested revision has to be followed to the letter, no matter if it makes any sense or not. Of course, we argued against this in the revision letter, but it doesn't look like anybody read it. 😑

Once again, one of the reasons I co-founded @jovi.

JoVI has received its first ever submission on its experimental track! 🥳

The submission, under review, is available here: journalovi.org/2023-park-gathe

and the reviewing process will be entirely on Github - follow it here: github.com/journalovi/2023-par

@dr_pi No - right now, it's up to the reviewers if they want to remain anonymous or sign their reviews. But it might be an idea to put that information behind a "click-to-reveal" thing?

@floe @LudoWaltman @jovi @lonnibesancon @chat yeah I'm hoping we can eventually move away from accept/reject

2023-05-29

Quick update: JoVI is now a full-blown official journal, with our own ISSN (2794-5502) and DOI prefix (doi.org/10.54337/jovi.vXiY.NNN), courtesy of Aalborg University press and the Royal Danish Library. :jovi: 🥳

JoVI's first publication is now live! See doi.org/10.54337/jovi.v1i1.778 for our inaugural editorial & mission statement.

Abstract

The Journal of Visualization and Interaction (JoVI) is a venue for publishing scholarly work related to the fields of visualization and human-computer interaction. Contributions to the
journal include research in:
• how people understand and interact with information and technology,
• innovations in interaction techniques, interactive systems, or tools,
• systematic literature reviews,
• replication studies or reinterpretations of existing work,
• and commentary on existing publications.
Cross-disciplinary work from other fields such as statistics or psychology, which is relevant to the fields of visualization or human-computer interaction is also welcome.
