I post random stuff and Gaia Sky dev news. I do scientific visualization, computer graphics and astronomy. #GaiaSky
I'll create a news post about this in the Gaia Sky webpage, so that anyone who wants to try it has a clear guide as to how to proceed. And also for me to remember in the future, as I will most probably forget. 😅

Got it fully working, performance is stellar:
Monado is difficult to set up and very picky with the environment, but when it works it is BUTTERY SMOOTH. Performance is much better than with SteamVR. Why?? There is an issue with the color format that makes the image brighter than it should be though. Adjusting the gamma mostly fixes it.
I'm gonna try monado now and see how it performs with this runtime compared to SteamVR. If it works.
Works quite well now. I actually went into the VR code and could fix some red flags in the swapchain handling. This resulted in a much faster presentation, and #GaiaSkyVR on Linux is now quite usable. There's some stuttering when turning the head, I'll try to fix that next.
The new release of Gaia Sky is almost ready. Today is testing day, so it's time to dust off the Valve Index and see how much VR on Linux has improved since the last time I tried (it was underwhelming). With the Steam Frame on the horizon, I'm kind of excited, ngl.
#GaiaSky will get an interactive UI accent color in the next version, dropping the static UI themes system. 👀
The provisional release notes for Gaia Sky 3.7.1 (to be released very soon) are kind of massive:

🚀 Gaia Sky server is BACK!
After a few months of downtime, our main server is once again accessible from the outside. You can now access installers, datasets, and documentation.
Thank you for your patience during the downtime.
Completed Super Mario Land on my first try with Play Kid. Plenty of lives to spare too! Just like the old times :_)
My son playing Super Mario Land (in difficult mode, after I completed it) in Play Kid. :BlobhajTinyHeart:
@cobratbq hahaha, yea, good one. I just replaced Game with Play, and Boy with Kid, I'm a simple man. :thinkerguns:
I wrote a Game Boy emulator. It was both frustrating and fun:

🚨 Our server remains completely blocked from external access due to the university IT department's ongoing network restrictions. This situation is extremely disappointing for our team and community.
We are urgently exploring all possible options and solutions to restore your access. We sincerely apologize for this frustratingly long and unresolved downtime.
Here are some interesting screenshots of our usage and download statistics. Note the sharp decline at the time where the server downtime starts.
Service update: Our server is still down due to uni-wide security measures. Hoping for a fix soon... I was planning a pre-Christmas release, but that's off the table for now. Full details:

@siewert this is a university-wide event, and has been going on for a month now. I think they are quite busy. I wouldn't like to be in their shoes right now...
