One of the guilty pleasures here in L.A. years ago was watching Dr. Gene Scott on local TV. I will not even attempt to explain him now -- consider that an exercise for the reader. But among his other battles, he had quite the problem with the FCC. And he had his own, utterly unique method for showing how he felt about them. Those were indeed the days.

Computer cases are overrated

Photo of a computer entirely with a case that has been tethered to the ceiling above the desk with string. Everything is just dangling in the air, like a Scotsman in a kilt.

Suburban scene in the middle of the night, crescent moon int he distance in the sky. In the middle is a box with books in it with the sign "Little Free Library"

Two old men with mustaches with backpacks and camo pants and boots are holding a person all dressed in black with a ski mask by the arms

The person in black has satchel full of books he has dropped

Another man with a hand and wearing camo and boots and a handheld radio. Talking on the radio with someone

"Janet? We got him. The guy who takes bestsellers and leaves behind textbooks from 1978."

It's very funny when the Disney props match your ham radio shack.

Office with National Parks posters and a bee smoker and two shortwave ham radios, plus a backpack and outdoors book and an old phone, plus a mug and rope and hardhat -- from Disney California AdventureSomeone's ham shack, which feels familiar....
