Sorry, but that's not our system. Monopoly has Universal Basic Income-- if you pass Go you get $200 whether you own a railroad or not. Your version of Monopoly is actually *better* that our system.
‘Which there ain’t no stern-gallery, sir, now we been degraded to a sixth-rate,’ cried Killick with malignant triumph. ‘Stern-galleries is for our betters, and I must toil and moil away in the dark.’

The series of "Murderbot Diaries" books by Martha Wells were the source, but the creators of the show and the cast have been doing great work with it. Very imaginative, I agree.
Let me guess-- he'll let some skeevy Republican donor do the actual publishing, charge fat fees, and keep the profits.
Apple+ is making me wait 7 whole days - week! -- between episodes of Murderbot. I feel like I'm back in high school.
I'm with you on the hot donuts, too. Room temp is warm enough, thanks.
I'm reading "Fever Beach" by Carl Hiaasen and it's off to a good start. #bookstodon
If I had any confidence Microsoft wouldn't screw this up monthly, I might be encouraged by this development.
I sincerely wish my employer would drop the whole Microsoft OS and product line completely. Every time we get a new application, it's web-based, and so we use Microsoft less and less.
Well, stop saying yes. Start saying no, a backdoor will break it.
Even if only the police ever had the key, it's still bad. Police officers are human, and humans lie, cheat, and steal sometimes. There are tons of stories about police officers breaking the law for their own private desires. There's no reason to believe a cop won't use backdoor access to go after an ex-spouse, etc.
I like cold leftovers, including pizza. For about 25 years my wife would ask me, "Aren't you going to heat that up?" She stopped asking about 6 years ago and now just treats me to an eye-roll.
My dad gave me a whole bag of shiny black jelly beans which I put out on my desk at work. It turned out that there was only one person on my 5 person team that didn't like licorice!
I feel about Ranch Dressing the way you do about licorice. Most people have a food or two they don't like. I believe your serial killer analogy is a *little* harsh.
Licorice taffy is often either white with a black stripe or all black.
A co-worker brought a box of taffy back from her beach vacation. Either someone went through and scored all the licorice taffy, or there was none in the box to start with. 😞 I'll be at the beach next week and see if I can get a box of all-licorice flavored taffy. #licorice
Ooh. Good tip. I knew it was called a crystal on a watch but had never heard it used for a clock, but who knows? I'll try it.
Boolean search operators used to be a great tool, but my guess is that Search algorithms have been tuned to ignore them. Certainly, Amazon doesn't give a shit about them, as their search seems to based entirely on which vendor outbid the others to be in my results.
I would not vote to nominate this guy for president. Nope.
Ever try to find a specific product but you can't describe it properly? When I say properly, I mean in a way that Search functions understand?
Even product photos won't help if the feature you want is not something visible. Customer reviews are sometimes the only viable way to discover if the feature you want is included.
I've been trying to find a cheap, analog wall clock that DOES NOT have a clear plastic cover (or lens or dome) over the clock face. I have not discovered any way to search for this.
I have found hundreds of clocks that *might* match what I want, except --product photos are taken to deliberately not have glare on this plastic over the face, and of course, the only reason I don't want this kind of cover is because the glare obscures the face of the clock. I have found customer videos to be the only way to answer the question- does this clock have a plastic cover? Searching online has become tedious.
Retail stores like TJ Maxx or Home Goods might be my best hope. They won't have hundreds of options, but I'll know instantly if the clocks have plastic covers.
@cstross And those are mainly rain, Spain, plain, etc.

Even private businesses mistake efficiency for effectiveness. When you cut staff to a barely functioning minimum, you have become brittle. If one or two people are suddenly unavailable, then your business model can snap and be unable to provide the goods or services that generate your profits.
Gas-powered leaf blowers are illegal in Montgomery County, Maryland, beginning on July 25, 2025. It's a start. Can we do gas powered mowers next?
If we outlawed lawns, we could do without either.
