Happy #GravyDay Fedi friends. For me it’s not the tinsel, trees and lights that signify the start of the festive season - it’s today. Paul Kelly’s poignant song has had its first airing here today and there will be a couple to come. I might even rewatch the How To Make Gravy film, which premiered this time last year.
Instead of sharing Paul’s song (I’m sure you know it) here are a couple of songs, written by Meg Washington for the film. Both of these won awards through the course of this year.
@LifeTimeCooking I’m craving up and down weather again. The long, long weeks of heat and humidity here without much change can be tedious. I miss a change of season and even 4 seasons in one day. And I miss snow. I’ve been known to quip that I was born to wander the moors with hair blowing in the wind… like something out of a Bronte novel.

Hey gardeners in Victoria (Oz), did you know that the EPA will test your soil for you, one time?
You can send three samples (from different parts of the garden) and they'll test them and let you know what's up with your soil, and whether you have dangerous contaminants, like lead.
I'm checking before I plant my food forest garden, so I can decide whether to use our soil or go with raised beds.

This morning is all about getting stuff done before the day gets too hot. Early watering of gardens and veggie beds done. First load of washing on and now onto jam making with the last of the home-grown mulberries and raspberries from the freezer. This should leave me clear for watching the cricket under the air con this afternoon.

It looks like most places across the country have had or are having summer well and truely kick in. Apart from the birds coming to visit while I was having coffee outside the frangipani was also having a bit of a show. My body doesn’t handle the heat of the subtropics of the NSW north coast but lots of plants and animals certainly thrive.

@sister_ratched I knew a Mr and Mrs Cox - husband used to work with him. The thing is that her professional experience was as a sports and remedial masseuse and when she changed her surname from maiden to married she started getting calls from men looking for massage that provided a “happy ending”. It took her a while to work out why these type of calls had started 🙄
I would have definitely stuck to the maiden name.
