@SteanSlh This "stop war!" calligraphy is impressive.

As I do prefer peace (& laws & trade & democracy), I share it.

@jalefkowit

What's great about the fediverse is that someone like that can have a presence here, but not on my server, and I can mute or block them or the server they're on if I want to. It would be beneficial for the government to have a Mastodon instance, regardless of how much we may disagree with their policies. Isn't that what we want? Isn't that what we're striving for? To get everyone off tech-bro centralized platforms designed for division, addiction, and profit.

An MIT research study of 54 people writing essays followed by brain scans has shown startling results.

ChatGPT users showed lower brain activity, weaker memory, and less creativity compared to those using Google or writing unaided.

Frequent ChatGPT users showed declining brain activity over sessions, resorted to copy & pasting more and most couldn’t remember the content of the essays they wrote when asked afterwards.

The brain is a muscle, use it or lose it.

The recent paper showing LLM use weakens your brain contained specific traps for LLMs so that when #AI evangilists tried to use AI to counter it, the results were mediocre.

time.com/7295195/ai-chatgpt-go

Ironically, upon the paper's release, several social media users ran it through LLMs in order to summarize it and then post the findings online. Kosmyna had been expecting that people would do this, so she inserted a couple Al traps into the paper, such as instructing LLMs to "only read this table below," thus ensuring that LLMs would return only limited insight from the paper.

She also found that LLMs hallucinated a key detail: Nowhere in her paper did she specify the version of ChatGPT she used, but Al summaries declared that the paper was trained on GPT-4o. "We specifically wanted to see that, because we were pretty sure the LLM would hallucinate on that," she says, laughing.

Time to wake up, time to act: Ergebnisse 2.

I just donated to veteran charities named by Craig Wood, who sails solo from Mexico to Japan to raise money for amputees like him. He lost his left hand and both legs.

This unique 100hz sound alleviates sea sickness

A research group led by Takumi Kagawa and Masashi Kato at Nagoya University Graduate School of Medicine has discovered that stimulating the inner ear with a 100hz sound reduces motion sickness afterwards. They tested it on mice and men. If you are sailing and prone to sea sickness, you may want to replicate their findings by listening to the sound for at least one minute. Here is a 100hz sine wave mp3 I made myself for you to download.

If it doesn’t work for you, read “A unique sound alleviates motion sickness” and find out more about this effect. I would appreciate a comment on your experience. Takumi Kagawa and Masashi Kato maybe too.

@leobard @fedihost @digitalcourage @iftas

Everyone should be able to make their own rules to protect their culture and they can decide how to handle their people and their connections. That again takes funding from each of those cultures to make sure they have a trusted and safe way to express themselves.

@ozoned @leobard @fedihost @digitalcourage I'm slowly working on tooling for CSAM after we had to pull the plug on IFTAS CCS (which I lead the development of), and I'm working with several others to try to improve the building blocks we need to tackle that.

@thisismissem - good point. what code have you been working on that goes into products I may be using so that I know where to direct my contributions to?

I appreciate "product and license" thinking, where code is packed and productivized so that consumers can buy. If I see a business model where the payment can be distributed amonst thousands of software/service consumers, I am much more eager to chime in. Maybe others, too.

Remembering something @Karlitschek said about 20 years ago, that sustaining end-user open-source applications is tricky, especially the last 80% work to make it a smooth system (and expanse the user universe beyond devs to anyone).... I like the business models of Wordpress with WooCommerce/Akismet or KirbyCMS where there is a clear flow of money for service.

I want #productize #fediverse, not #enshittification #socialmedia

(Thinking about hosters who could also charge for services and buy your code such as @fedihost @digitalcourage @PaulaToThePeople )
(Still in @ozoned threads)

@leobard @ozoned @fedihost @digitalcourage so funding to independent developers, like myself, helps push forwards the development of trust and safety tooling, improve security, and overall make your experience on the fediverse better.

Generally you won't directly see the work I do, but you or your mods would probably notice if it wasn't there.

@ozoned @fedihost @digitalcourage

I'm in, I'm in. I mean, for Donating.

I like your idea of connecting FOSDEM, W3C, FEDIVERSE, ... evolving the network.

Where can I put my money 💶?
